Looking for help identifying a suitable material to replace the upholstery covered cardboard that snaps onto the wall behind my couch. I had the couch professionally recovered with new foam and materials but this cardboard like material has proven impossible to reuse and the lady who did the work has not been able to find any kind of suitable material to replace it. This piece is about 6 ft long and about 14 in wide and snaps to the wall giving the couch a "blended effect" as well as covering a small electrical panel. Any help would be much appreciated. This photo shows the panel behind the couch as well as why it needed recovering(all original 1988 Excella). TIA

I made the backs out of a piece of "wood" that they make pegboards out of (without the holes in it) The name of the wood slips my mind, but they have it at the big box stores. It is about 1/8" thick & is brown in color. It's not really a piece of plywood, but is a composition wood. It's cheap & easy to work with (I also used it for patterns in projects). Someone here will fill in the exact name of the wood.....I'm just having a senior moment!

I should also add that the material in question is about ⅛" thick, flexible to fit the curve of the AS front wall and must be able to receive stiching from the sewing machine as it secures the upholstery fabric to the material.

"Masonite" is the composition board. After a church remodel, we had some scraps of a thin (maybe 1/16") fiberglass wall covering that had been installed in the bathrooms. It will do what you want. However, neither of these materials would be stitchable. I think an uphostery pro could insall with glue. Just a thought.

Yes! That's it! Masonite! When I made my upholstery that went alongside of the beds, I used masonite. But, I enveloped it & didn't stitch it behind the fabric. It's flexible, but I don't think you can sew through it. You may be able to velcro it to your already made pad..Good luck to you!
