Question Shower walls redo

I am currently peeling the paper off the shower walls & was wondering if anyone has tried to replace the paper w/ laminate? Just thinking that it just might work 'cause it has no real corners. Any thoughts or am I "just crazy after all these years"?

It sounds reasonable to me. But there's another (maybe easier) option. Finish peeling off the wallpaper and sand the walls. Then paint with a high quality primer and top that off with a paint designed to refinish counter laminate. This is what we did to our shower and bathroom walls a few years ago. It looks wonderful and is holding up great.

How 'bout dis?

We just bought a SOB. It's OK though, we still have the AS. Anyway the shower in the SOB has what looks like linoleum on the shower wall. It curves nicely around both the inside corners of stall & the outside corner of the left wall. It is caulked around the bottom where the stall wall meets the tub. There are many color & design options to choose from. This flooring material is waterproof when laying flat on floor. Just make sure to dry fit it before apply adhesive to walls.

I was looking at the primer and laminate idea & I think I'm going to look further into the laminate because of the choices. I really want to put a brushed alum. in but the cutting, fitting, rivets, permanent scratches, cost, etc., kinda make me sway to the lam. side of the fence.

Take a look at this Wilsonart laminate: Brite Brushed Natural Aluminum 6256

I'm considering thin brushed aluminum for mine, same stuff as you would use for the outer skin only thinner. The newer ones have aluminum all over the inside, and I think it looks pretty good. Also planning to use the same aluminum to make a nice industrial looking backsplash for my stove.

We just lined the wood panels in our '56 Safari's wet-bath walls with 25 ga. stainless steel. We went with the SS vs aluminum because the SS won't oxidize like the aluminum which was there before. Our wet-bath is in the front "corner" so the other domed/curved walls are Zolatone. Looks great!

What was the name of the primer and paint? Also, do you have any pics of your bathroom?

This is what I want to do to ours.

I have the information at home. Once I get back from camping this weekend I'll look it up for you.

laminate shower walls

I used laminate on our shower walls (Wilsonart, I think). Three strips high to get the right compound curve shape. I heated the laminate around a 2" pipe to get the 90 degree bend on the inside corner. Attached with construction adhesive. After 2 1/2 years, no loosening of the laminate or a crack in the caulking. Here's a couple of pics. Hope it helps.

Sorry folks, I had forgotten I promised to get the information on the countertop paint we used for our shower walls. It's Rust-Oleum Specialty Countertop Coating and it's now available at Lowes. It can be tinted in 16 colors. We just went with the white tint base. It's wearing like iron....

That new countertop paint looks really great! So many possibilities. Walls, countertops, etc. I'm hoping to try it on my harvest gold kitchen counter in the AS. And maybe paint a few of the dark walnut partitions too. I'll post pics when I do.

Mary

Hi Mary, Annie was partly right. We did put a shower surround in the corner of the shower so we would have shelves for soap etc. but the rest of the bath we used dry eraser board, it is thin and it will still slide in the partition holder that screws to the wall (with the little teeth) I just put it on after I peeled the vinyl off, with contact cement.

Sorry I didn't get this on till now.

Marvin
