Seat cover cleaning?

Two years ago our 72 Safari was broken into and just trashed. The insurance paid off and we were OK but we had no camper.
We just got a 2008 Safari Sport 16'. It's sure nice to have an Airstream parked in the driveway again. We went with this little camper because it's easy to tow and there is only the wife and me.
I'm still cleaning the camper up. Has anyone taken the seat covers off and cleaned them?
I'm thinking that a run through the washing machine and then an air dry will do fine. The owners manual says not to do that. Has anyone tried this? Any advice on cleaning the seat covers will be great.

Hi and welcome to the forum - sorry to hear about the 72. Are there any fabric care instructions in your manual?

I finnaly just put them in the washing machine. We have a front loader with a BULKY ITEM setting. After they were washed, I put them back on the foam rubber cores while they were still wet. Then I put them in the sun to dry. Results were very good. The edging looks no worse now than they did before washing. The nap is pick up nicely and they look good. Most, but not all, stains are gone.
The factory owners manual says to spot dry clean only. Spot cleaning wasn't going to help these covers.
