Sorry about the delay, I did find out about KNOXFOAM. They are OUT OF BUSINESS! I just had some time yesterday, so i went to the only place i could find, called Foam Rubber and Fabric Outlet in Knoxville at 1323 N Central St. 37917 This place is run by the brother of the guy that ran Knoxfoam and he told me they had gone out of business. This is a great place, with any foam cut while you wait, and lots of upholstery fabric as well, but i'm not sure if they do mail order (i'm local). Phone number if you'd like to call is 865-524-4251

I hope this helps everyone!

Foambymail.com is where I will be going. Free shipping and you can get free instant quotes for many shapes. They are local to me in Michigan, but they actually have better prices if I order online! AND FREE SHIP!

Thanks Mouth, glad it worked out for you. I got a bunch of fabric samples there the other day (without my wife) when i got my foam cut, so hopefully we can agree on one soon so i can finish my reupholstery job. Nice work on the Argosy too! I'm in the middle of a 73' Sovereign that i found and am redoing, and having a great time. Pics to come soon..........eric

Mouth,
Do you know if they have a website? Did you pick your order up or are they shipping it? I need a couple of new mattresses and some cushions if we are going to build a gaucho.

86scotty,
Did you notice if they carry awning fabric? We would like to sew a new rope and pole awning and would like to find some good cheap Sunbrella fabric.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Thanks,
63silver

63silver we went into the shop last friday and brought in our template for the matress that I needed and was cut right there for no extra cost.....this literally saved me over half of the price even with the free shipping that on line would have been...since we are so close this is too good to pass up. They did have alot of fabric but dont think that I seen anything that you could use for awning. This is a mom and pop shop that has been open for over 50 years....I much rather use this type of business than going to a "big box" type of store. They will cut any type of foam for you....they really have all shapes and size. If you need anything else about them let me know. Also a fyi.....they have some marine grade vinyl that would be really good on table cushions. I don't know if they have a website (really don't think so) but I just called the number that Scotty had listed they are open mon-sat.

Yep Mouth, a good deal for the HD50 i'm suspecting you got. I got both twin beds and all of the gaucho pieces cut with the regular stuff for just over 200. I don't know if they do much shipping, but you could call and ask. I'm not sure how they would cut irregular shapes and ship, they have several signs posted saying no refunds, all sales final, etc.

They did let me in on a little upholstery secret though. Use an electric kitchen knife to cut and shape your foam. I plan to do this to get my rounded gaucho piece right.

good luck!

Wait for a sale!

Hancock Fabrics is having a sale 40% off, includes special orders too. Foam is expensive as you well know so I tripped across this sale today in our area of East Texas. Hopefully you have a Hancock Fabric or another national chain...if not wait for a sale, ask the manager when they expect it to go on sale. I am tired of looking for replacement foam for twin mattresses so I'm going this way as opposed to mail order.

Damn, wish I'd seen all these posts earlier!

But I think the deal I got at Wally World is acceptable, a 60x80 foam mattress that's 3" of memory foam and 5" of firm regular foam for $240. I'm cutting that down to 48x76 for a double bed width and queen length.

If your bed is symmetrical (some of mine aren't), you can use the memory foam side in the summer and the firm foam side in the winter. Memory foam gets pretty hard when it cool in the Airstream (but is suprisingly comfortable once you're on it and things warm up, just a few minutes).

Gaucho Foam

I redid the 2 gauchos in my 71. One has a pretty dense heavy foam. the heavy foam backrest tends to slump under it's own weight while the lighter foam does not.
