Painted from from the factoy?

I have my 66 Overlander gutted to replace the rear (bath) section of the floor. The rear endcap is a white glossy finish which is waterproof I am sure as is part of the shower area. While scrubbing the interior I noticed the front endcap appears to be painted and flaking off. I can see where the trim at the bottom of the cap was masked off, but the paint seems to extend under the window trim.

So, was the front endcap painted from the factory (the beige does match pretty well), or was this done by a previous owner? I assume a good primer and paint will cover the old finish pretty well. I seen the Sherwin Williams primer mentioned in a few posts.

And if I decide to refiish the rear endcap, is there a finish that will hold up in the shower area and sink?

Not sure if this was factory or a common modification, but yes our rear end cap on the 66 is gloss white, and the front is somewhat textured flaky paint. The rear cap and all bath fixtures in ours will get a few coats of Sherwin Williams Tile-Doc in the bright white as soon as I fix the cracks in the fiberglass.

The end caps in your trailer are made with fiberglass and are "gel coated," which is a fiberglass paint, that does not peel off.

The paint that is coming off, was applied by a previous owner.

Remove all the paint before you attempt to refinish. Then you must sand the headliners, not scuff, but sand.

Apply primer, let it age up for a few days, and then paint the primer with a "HIGH" quality paint.

If you use some cheap paints, you will create more problems for yourself.
