original interior wall covering

I'm trying to find out what the orginal wall covering is in a '70 Sovereign. Does anyone know and also how to safely remove white paint the previous owner applied to it? Also, how do I clean the orginal wall covering once I have removed the paint? Anyother advice about this would be appreciated. Thanks, Beverly II.

Beverly,

We have a 71 GT so I am not certain we have the same wall covering material but I would guess we do. Our material appears to be a vinyl over aluminum. Ours was sticky to the touch. I used warm & Dawn followed by a solution of bleach & water. This seemed to get rid of the sticky feel as well as remove some of the staining. Hope this helps. As for removing paint from a painted surface. I have yet to find a save alternative that actually works as detailed on the package. Depending on the condition of the paint, more good than bad, have you considered just cleaning, priming, and then repainting it? Sometimes repainting turns out to be the safest alternative. Good luck.
