OceanAir Cassette Blinds - Tried Them?

These look like a nice replacement for mini-blinds, which I abhor. They are made for boats, but look like they'd be idea for trailers too. I like the clean look of them. They roll up into a cassette head at the top.

Anyone bought these? Happy?

I haven't bought any (yet) but I've seen them or a very similar product in quite a few recent Airstreams. They look nice stowed and in use.

I think you can call Airstream and order from them. Later model Internationals used Oceanair shades. I've seen them online for $50 to $150 depending on size.

Great. I had no idea that AS was using them! That makes it even easier! Thanks for that info.

We have them in our 2007 Bambi with the Ocean Breeze decor, for which I think they were standard issue from the mothership. Anyway, I love em. Easy to use, seem to be well made... they're pretty great.

The ONLY thing I don't like about the FLying Cloud is the metal blinds. This would be an excellent alternative. What do they look like pulled down?

Ours are solid white, sort of a vinyl material, very clean looking, and they just kind of go away, if you know what I mean... They block the light nicely, not a tight seal of course because there's a bit of space between them and the window, but they do the job nicely, and then retract up into their sleek cartridges. I think they're perfect.

Well, that link didn't work. I intended to link to post #659 in Smokeless Joe's "Contemporizing ..." thread. Photos of OceanAir shades. Cool. Literally.

Red face OceanAire Shades

Has anyone installed these? I am not too good at things mechanical so am just wondering how straight forward this all is? Have the folks in Ferndale done anything? Thank you.

I do not have them but I called Airstream this summer about blinds to replace my curtains and was told that OceanAir was the manufacturer of the Airstream International blinds. They have particular sizes on hand that are custom built for Airstream. I checked on getting them for my Safari but the Airstream (on hand) sizes do not fit so I would be forced to have custom ones made and that is really expensive. The company is in England. They have standard sizes too that they market online but, none of them fit my application either - too small.

My 2012 has them. Overall, work fine. Be VERY careful when you open and close them to have a straight in approach. If you hit either side of the cassette as you roll them in or out you will instantly begin to fray the edges. I was at JC about 6 weeks ago and while I was there, I had one of mine replaced due to the black out fabric separating from the shade. They gave me a replacement and said that they hadn't seen this issue, though the fraying is apparently not unusual.
