After a few years of being uncomfortable we finally decided to replace the sofa with a real sofa from Rooms To Go. We chose the Spencer Lakes sofa in the microfiber. The fit is perfect! We would have preferred leather but they only make it in the blended leather and that is not very durable in our experience. We have only had it for a few hours but oh what a difference. It has two recliners. We chose the manual so that we can still recline when without power. I also did not like that you had to wait to get up for the foot rest to come back up with the power. The manual operation allows you to push into lock position with your legs and it is very smooth and easy. We love it and couldn't be happier with our decision. For any Airstream purists that are interested, my original sofa is up for grabs if you pick it up in Austin TX. I have included a photo of the one we pulled out and our new one.
Well I wish I could use my reclining sofa as it is incredibly comfortable, but unfortunately someone else thinks so too, hasn't moved and doesn't look like he has any intentions of moving.
What did you do with in inverter that is under the sofa? Looks very comfy - I'd love to get one for our Classic, but would lose a bunch of storage and the inverter is under our sofa.
Awesome (except for that cat stealing your spot)! Looks like it was made for the space. Even seems to follow the contours. Good luck getting that spot back.
We replaced the inverter last year, and while it is significantly smaller, it is still there along with the batteries. We will start on some custom cabinetry tomorrow to cover the space behind the sofa.
Another bonus to replacing the sofa: it was way cheaper than what we paid two years ago to have the original one recovered. If we had purchased an rv sofa it would have cost 3 times as much and from all the ones we've tried, probably wouldn't be comfortable.
I'd love to see pictures of the cabinetry that you build to cover the back. Looks great! Do you have to pull the sofa out to have access to the inverter?
I think we my have to pull the sofa out but maybe not depending on the way hubby builds the cabinet. The backs of the sofa slide right off. That is why it was so easy to get through the door. I will update with pics of cabinet.
We completed our storage cabinet for behind the new sofa. We angled it so that we could fully recline on both sides. If you notice from the photos, you can still reach the switch to turn off the 12-volt system. It was less than $100 to construct. It may not look like it is very big, but we estimate that we made up at least 90% of what we lost from the storage drawer underneath. We stored extra sheets, a quilt, a few lap blankets and my knitting supplies including whatever current project I am working on. It looks like we will get everything in there, but we are waiting a few days to make sure the paint is no longer tacky. One thing to mention, I really did not like storing anything in the drawer under the old sofa. The foam from the underside of the sofa would rub off and fall into the drawer, getting everything sticky and gross. Hopefully, now I won't have to take everything outside to shake it before we use it.
Very nice! The only thing I think I would do different is to move the battery switch up to between the two hatches. This is definatly getting saved in my " to do when I get to that point in my rehab" file.

I was looking at the same sofa for my home. How do you like it so far? How is the firmness of the cushion holding up against use?
I haven't had microfiber sofa's before. At friends places, I see the fabric seems to have become loose in 1 to 2 years.
The sofa listed at $555 at rooms to go here in NC.
Thanks!

Hi Gretco,
In the few months we've had it, the sofa has held up well and it remains very comfortable and we love the option of reclining.
This is the second microfiber sofa we have had from Rooms To Go. I think the first one was a little higher quality but this one is still easy to wipe up spots etc. The difference was the pile of the fabric which is mostly a preference. We have never had an issue with the fabric loosening and the other sofa we had for 4 years. I think the potential for loosening of fabric would even be less with the current option because of all the seams that make it difficult to stretch the fabric. We would have preferred leather but this sofa did not come in that option (only a pleather which looked and felt cheap to
us)
If you have cats the microfiber is a good choice. It doesn't snag on their claws.
All in all I think this sofa is a good economical choice for a small space.
I'm chasing a weight problem in my trailer. Do you know the weight of the original sofa and storage you took out vs. the weight of the new storage and recliner sofa?
Thanks,
Al

That couch looks great. I am stuck with the leather couch that came with my 2006 Bambi and it is NOT comfortable---looks nice though. If I was an envier--which I try not to be--I would certainly envy your talents on craftsmanship.

Keep in mind that this is just an estimation. Asked my husband and he said the old sofa had a completely steel frame with steel box springs across vs The new sofa which is mostly foam with light weight base and steel mechanisms for the feet recline. He guesses that the new setup may be about 50lbs less and then with the storage it just breaks even. Give or take a few lbs, the weight difference is not significant.
