Has anyone done a new curtain system in an old trailer? When it comes to curtains, I'm not really concerned about original stuff. I want something that works well.

I don't know. It looks like everyone is looking for original stuff in these threads. I'm looking for someone who has simply used a whole new system to see if that might be the way to go for me.

Bambi's Dad: I'm with you on this one, and I wish I had an answer. We just removed all the old-style curtains from our '76 Safari not just because they weren't in great shape, but because I really don't like the style of curtains they put in the trailers, with the pleats and all that. And that track system!?! What's that about? It took brute force and power tools just to remove the old curtains for cleaning. So now that I'm not putting back what was there, I need to come up with something new. I've been looking through the forums and vintage Airstream photos online, but I haven't come up with anything yet.

I'd love to see some pictures of something really original.

Are you talking about retro-fitting with the T and G clip system?

Yes, we are on the same page. I'm going to start at Camping World, (There is one by me) and go from there.

Bambi's Dad,
Check out the work the wife did on our curtains for the 64GT last Summer.
About 50$ for materials and, approx 10 hours of labor. These pictures only show the side curtains..She also did the front curtains and the one over the kitchen sink as well..

I'm not near a Camping World so I haven't checked there. I found a track system different from the one that's in my Safari at a marine supply place online. I might try to make my own curtains (sans pleats) using this system. But I was really looking for something more decorative than this. I saw a flexible curtain rod made from clear PVC tubing at a home interior store and I'm wondering what I might do with it. I've also seen some wire systems online and was wondering if something like that might work. -J

I know this is not what you are looking for, but this is what I did for my 64s windows. Shopping at one of those thrifty stores one day I come across these terry cloth dish towels that had a 4in. decorative band at one end. The wheels started to turn. The short of it, I grabbed about 5 packs of three at 2.99 a pc. Useing the smaller type of U hook for curtains I was able to use the original sliders in the the tracks. It says camping to me, not living room.

Both options are viable. I have no curves to contend with, so that makes thing easier. I was thinking a simple piece of polished out aluminum rod top and bottom and some kind of simple ornament at each end to keep it all in place. It would make the cutain making pretty easy. My girlfriend could easily pull that kind of sewing off.

Silverhawk -- Do you have pictures? I saw some kitchen towels on sale at a Crate & Barrel store just yesterday that I considered for curtains in my kitchen area. I'm not sure what kind of "U hook" you're talking about, but I like your thought about camping vs. living room.

If you're not dealing with curves, I don't see why that wouldn't work. There are probably any number of easy curtain clips you could find at any big box store, or even an office supply.

True. The simpler the track system, the easier the curtain-making gets. Lots more choices that way too. btw -- thanks for starting this thread. It's coming at a great time for me with my new trailer.

Hi, Doug or Jamie,
I do have one shot of the curtains in my photo's. Sorry it is not very detailed. That hook can be found in the curtain hardware section of any fabric store. They look just like the letter U, come in two sizes, I used the smaller size. I believe they are used for hanging simple pleated curtains on traverse rods. But what do I know about those things.

Washing curtains is not a problem, Quick spill clean-up no prob there is always a towel close by.
