Need to remove the forward interior endcap 1994 29ft Excella
Just purchased this and need to replace the forward flooring and wall covering(carpet). The endcap won't come off and I've removed all the visible rivets and screws.

Why do you want to take it down and risk cracking it?
Its probably held up there by an abundance of vulkem used at the factory. You will find all kind of wires duck taped or glued to it, so be careful when you drop it down. 4 hands are better than 2

I'm trying to get carpet removed. And there is also a large dent in the roof from a pine tree limb. It also seemed like there was a rivet I tried sliding a scraping tool behind and it wouldn't slide due to something.

Painting Endcap.
Removed and out. Does anyone have suggestions on painting? There was a crack in the curve due to PO and as i was trying to repair the crack it opened up. so I am going to use a fiberglass kit to reinforce the area and hopefully heal the crack. What to use for paint?

Can you describe a little of your process in removing the endcap? How did it go? Any unexpected problems? How many hands did you actually need to drop it safely? I'm about to take mine off. Your experience would be of interest to me and I'm sure many others. Thanks for the insight.
By the way, there are some other current threads about this exact issue you are dealing with--especially the painting.

we painted our end cap after washing it with marine clean. Pam primed it with XIM and then a primer paint from Sherwin Williams, and after that the color coat. seems to be working so far.
I had a few small cracks I used some fiber glass tape on the back side and it seems to be working. Good luck with yours.

It would've came down better with two people, but I got it down by myself. Just have the area prepped ft a place to put it while disconnecting wiring that may be taped to it.

From a recent conversation with Colin Hyde, I know that he often uses automotive paint on the restored and reinforced interior end caps.

Wow! Very nice indeed!
We helped to "deconstruct" a 1972 Overlander a couple of weeks ago with some friends at Colin Hyde's place in Plattsburgh NY in preparation for Colin's rebuild. I have to admit that I may have caught the restoration bug during that project!

Installed end cap. YIKES WHAT A PAIN. NOW I HAVE TO DO A REPAIR CRACK. Oh well. The bondo didn't hold so I'll use fiberglass this time. But the job is done.
