Memory foam ??

Is memory foam good for bedding and cushions, and what would be a good density?.......thanks toastie

We bought a memory foam topper for the bed. It works well for that application. I also have a memory foam pillow. For seating I do not think it would work as well.

I have a 2" memory foam topper on my factory bed. It works wonders.
For cushions. We use it in Aircraft for long duration flight. ie, firefighting.

Someone said it freezes, does it? Their Airstream was not heated in the cold climate and when they went to lie down on the bed and they said it freezes.

I was thinking I wanted to add that to our beds until I read that. We do sometimes stop and use the beds on the road when the beds could be unheated or at least minimally heated from the furnace.

I use 3 inch memory foam for the beds in both of my trailers. I laminated it to a 4 inch high density foam base for a total of 7 inch thickness. If you used memory foam alone I think it would "bottom out" and would lack very much in comfort.

I also made a couple of removable cushions for my pickup seats using 2 inch memory foam. They do wonders reducing "Toyota butt" on long trips.

The memory foam can get quite hard when cold, but relaxes with body heat or ambient temperatures.

We did 2+2 (2" polyurethane & 2" memory) memory foam pad (target brand) on our rear queen bed. Works fantastic... the OEM mattress was 'unsleepable' by itself- now its more comfortable than our home simmons... best bang-for-the-buck upgrade to the RV to date!

For the bedding we are looking at 8" memory foam, we have 2 fixed beds that we will have to contour the foam to the radius of the trailer........toastie

I would try that 8" first before you fit it to your trailer. I agree with finalcutjoe. Memory foam alone you sink down too low to turn comfortably. I would prefer the 2" topper. I tried the memory foam mattress and did not like it. Just try it first.

of the bedding that we are looking at

2-inch premium layer of 3-pound memory foam
6-inch base layer of 2-pound foam

there is a "high quality" (poly, I think) at foamdistributors.com that I plan on using for my cushions/bed upgrade... I found memory foam too saggy for my troublesome lumbar, although I do think they're making it in firmer versions now.... just beware if you have a history of back trouble..

Iretired from doing custom wheelchair seating. I used a combination of sunmate foam and pudge foam. This worked great for preventing ulcers on your bottom. The sunmate foam came in different densities. There was a pink, blue and green. A piece of the blue in 4 inch became rock hard when cold. Look at ther sunmate web and contact the company.
With the pudge, one could put a large ring of keys down and challange a not knowing person to see if they could feel them--NOT

Ive always thought a memory foam matress would be great for a motorhome, you can take a nap while traveling and not roll out of the bed while going around a corner.

We have a six inch non-memory foam mattress (six pound density) with a 3 inch memory foam topper (4.5lb density). It is extremely comfortable, and we still comfortable when we ran out of propane on an 18f night! A mattress of purely memory foam, would be too soft. You need a more supportive "base" underneath it.

I agree with the other posters. Memory foam will work great as a topper, but is usually supported by regular foam as base.

that is a 6" high density foam that we use as the base....we brought in a template...and they cut it size....it fits our custom bed that DH built perfect....the 2" topper is memory foam then all covered with a regular sheet on top.

Yes it will freeze. the colder it gets the harder it gets. I have been in our trailer when it's been 20 degrees and it is a rock. But then is your trailer that cold when you are using it. Nope...

So it shouldn't be a problem...
