Interior Refurbishment on a 1991 Limited Trailer
Some of you may know that I’m working to finish a year-long project of structural and leak repair and floor replacement on our 1991 34 foot Limited trailer (see http://www.airforums.com/forums/f36/leaks-and-floor-rot-in-91-34-limited-85517.html if you are interested). Now, my wife, Carolyn, and I are thinking through the interior décor changes and we have a number of questions for those who have completed (or even contemplated) a similar journey.
The first question that I’ll pose involves upholstery. We are looking at reupholstering only the cloth portions of our dinette seats and the couch in the front. The cloth is both faded and mice have urinated extensively on the seats.
Here’s one of the dinette seats (complete with mouse urine stain).
Here’s the couch in both the up and down positions.
The leather and vinyl are cleaning up nicely. I’ve cleaned the leather with the Lexol Leather Cleaner and then used Lexol Leather Conditioner…both have gone very well! What we’re planning to do is replace the cloth with some remnants of indoor/outdoor cloth and give the interior a less luxurious more casual and practical look (see pictures below).
Here’s the cloth and a couple of pillows we’re planning to use (along with one of the refinished cabinet doors) in changing the look of the trailer.
Have any of you had experience with taking the upholstery apart and re-sewing new upholstery fabric to leather. If so, what advice do you have? We’ve gotten one bid from an upholster for $750 and we’re going to get a couple more; but we’re also considering doing the work ourselves.
Thanks in advance,
