Interior Paint

Well, we finally had to register after lurking for a year! Last year we bought a really nice 1960 Overlander from Rog0525. Now we want to personalize it by redecorating etc. Roger painted the inside and we want to repaint the inside to match our decor and the new carpet we will be putting in. Trying to get in touch with Roger to find out what kind of paint he used as we are not interested in stripping it first. We just want to paint over it. Any suggestions of what kind of paint to use? We are thinking of an interior latex house paint......after researching the forums I can't seem to find out what everyone uses.

I can't help with your paint question, as you may recall ours is the original Zolotone...but someone will chime in. Just wanted to say "hi" ~

I just replied to your PM.
Here's what the bathroom looked like before I repainted and replaced the floor tile. Yuck!
I spent about an hour just getting the pink paint off the towel holders and polishing them.

Yeah Rog, Tom said it was painted pink before.....we happened to find a carpet that has several colors in it, but none to overpowering. Also found a linoleum that has some color in it, but it will blend with the bathtub and sink so we don't have to replece them.

We just want to paint over it. Any suggestions of what kind of paint to use? We are thinking of an interior latex house paint......after researching the forums I can't seem to find out what everyone uses.

Since my Overlander had been painted insided by the second owner and returning to the original Zolatone finish was cost prohibitive, I sought out the advice of the professional who handled my interior refurbishment. The Fowlers (Fowler Interiors of Symsonia, Kentucky) refurbished the interiors of both of my coaches, and I have come to trust their advice. Their process included using egg-shell finish interior latex in three colors using a sponge-painting process - - off-white base coat with light blue and light silver accent colors sponged-on - - the end effect resembles Zolatone from a distance and is very attractive and has proven quite durable over the past three seasons.

You can get a general idea of how well the sponge painting process turned out in the photo below - - the upper portion of the wall and the ceiling are both sponge painted the lower wall and bath fixtures were professionally refinished by a local bathroom refinisher in a color called "antique pewter".

How did you get your sink and tub so clean? That's what we are struggling with now. the sink is especially ugly with streaks as though someone tried to etch it and gave up. I know this is a 34 year old trailer, but I don't want the bathroom so grungy looking. Did they paint the fiberglass back form fitted piece and the ABS sink and tub? Thanks, Susan

How did you get your sink and tub so clean?

The original fixtures were Avacado Green with brown and yellow blotches for accent when I first acquired the coach. Tried every cleaning process suggested, and experienced very little success - - cleaner but still stained and in a color that I never really cared much about being in contact with on a recurring basis.

The process was actually called a coating system, but the components were applied like most automotive finishes. The local contractor used at least three different primers and top coats to account for the different materials used in the bath - - fiberglass, abs plastic, and a non-specific plastic that reacted differently than the known fiberglass and abs components in the bath. The results were nothing short of fabulous - - and the bath has been in use the better part of two seasons now and it continues to hold up quite well - - I am rather careful with cleaning , but no more so than with the fiberglass bath fixtures in my home.

We got impatient and started painting. Thinking of doing some kind of faux finish but have never tried it before. If we do it though "it will be done BEFORE the tape comes down". It took longer to tape everything off than to paint. We are using a semi-gloss latex interior paint. So far it looks good. Got the bathroom and the bedroom done today and will try to work more on it this week. Will try to post some pictures when I have time to figure out how to post them.
