Unhappy hypoallergenic insulation?

Is there such a thing? at one time i saw a thread about some guys "i think" in hawaii that redid airstreams hypoallengenically but now can't find it. We were thinking of great stuff PRO until someone said "well, will that give off fumes as a certain temp? I contacted DOW and haven't heard yet. but am interested in any ideas out there.

I would think that aluminum foil insulation should be safe. Check out the following thread for some information about it.

http://www.airforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=14803

The technique that I have documented there does require some type of adhesive to hold the foil in place along with some foam strips so there would be some question as to what would be the best choice for that. Otherwise the foil should be fine I would think.
Also you might try contacting "silver suz" in these forums. I am sure she knows about the Hawaii connection you mentioned. I believe I heard they were going to stop doing trailer rehabs but you could still find out what they used. Silver suz has serious alergy problems and I believe has decided to use foil insulation.

I'm using a type of fiberglass batt from John Manville that is formaldehyde free. It's white instead of yellow. I don't know if it hypoallergenic, but it's better than the old stuff.

I would think that aluminum makes an awfully good barrier in itself. In a home the walls are usually permeable and the migration of molds or allergens would be a concern. If you are concerned you could lightly caulk the sheeting's overlapping seams during reinstallation.

I have seasonal allergies and serious year-round mold problems. I would be much more concerned about a moisture laden subfloor and any carpeting. I priced aluminum Hexcel to replace my plywood and it's extreemly cost prohibitive.

I can imagine that trying to live in the travel trailer during peak allergy season will be a challenge. The good side is that I don't plan to have many allergen trapping fabric surfaces and the camper is small enough that an air cleaner will clear the air in no time. That is unless I have to leave the windows open since I don't have A/C.

Best of luck,

Steve
