How to replace vinyl toilet cover 1969 Overlander

Anyone have idea on easy way to replace old vinyl cover on the plastic bench area next to toilet in '69 Overlander ?

My wife did ours. She took it apart for a template. Easy peasy!

I used nice tacks on my vinyl underneath for a neat look. Not a great photo but here it is anyway...

Yeah, the seat cover part is easy you can staple it, but the sides sit directly on top of plastic like the counter top, can't staple to it. Looks like it had some type of adhesive in 2 spots, but obviously this wasn't good enough because some one screwed through the plastic and the vinyl seam edge. I do not want to repeat the screw idea unless no other way. Also the side wings are double sided vinyl material with foam sandwiched in between and glued to both pieces. The original is heat seamed. Wonder what glue to use, I have sewn vinyl before so that isn't a problem.
