help with broken gaucho

Hello all,

I'm restoring my 1976 Overlander and the poor gaucho has had better days.

I've tried to make sense of the schematics but the pics are too small to quite understand what's supposed to happen there so I thought to turn to you all for help!

I'm reupholstering the cushions myself, no trouble there, but can anyone supply me with good photos of how the frame is assembled? Mine has a broken frame that can be welded, broken hinges that can be replaced, but I wanted to see how it's working to see if there's anything else I need there.

I'd appreciate it greatly!

The Vintage airstream site has some pictures and diagrams of the Gaucho,(not the pants or the cowboy).

that would be helpful if I were building a new one, but I believe I can repair the original.

Just a few things that aren't clear about the assembly and how it works.

Does anyone out there have a 1976 model with the front gaucho that could take a few pictures of the frame for me?

Will these help? I'm thinking (although not entirely certain) that my front gaucho should be just like yours. The fourth picture is of the side gaucho, which has a slightly different frame assembly. I have more pictures if you think they will help. And I have the aluminum frames, if you are interested.

That is what was in my 1976 31' Sovereign in the front, the "Old Back Breaker" The only thing more uncomfortable than sitting on it was trying to sleep on in when made out into a bed. Like you I spend countless hours refurbishing this old thing to get it work perfect. New new fabric and it looked great. Still uncomfortable. Best thing I ever did was take it out and replace it with 2 wall away recliners. Good luck

I hear you! We've pulled them both out and are building new ones. Still room for a small recliner! Will be a busy summer!
