Good Products to Clean Vinyl Walls, Ceiling? We're Restoring Our 67 Overlander

Anyone found a good cleaner that's not abrasive but will really clean the vinyl to its original white? I was thinking just good ol bleach n warm water, but I don't want to do any damage. It's in great shape for a 67'

I wouldn't use bleach! We used a product called Spray-Nine; it is not only a marvelous cleaner but an effective antivirus, antibacterial agent as well, that is safe to use and smells pretty good to boot. We must have used 3 gallons on our 310 before it was all spic and span.

I used Greased Lightning on my '67 and the walls cleaned up really well. Available at the big home improvement stores.

I used Marine Clean diluted 2:1. My Caravel walls were filthy & now look new. The sticky has not come back.

"really clean the vinyl to its original white?"

Hi There,

I don't think that it was ever "white". After days of cleaning with everything imaginable, TSP, magic erasers, bottles of purple stuff, green stuff, yellow... with clear water rinses in-between, my '68 walls were indeed very clean, free of marks and stains. The color is a creamy, light beige with a tan colored embossed weave. It of course varies with the amount of sunlight, but definitely not white.

I could be mistaken, but I think my walls look like new.

The wall texture photos are taken with flash, and without, on a Michigan grey sky day. In direct sunlight, they're brightly reflective, then take on a warmth in the evening light, that compliments the woodwork comfortably. The pictures are not "before and after" cleaning, they're all "after" cleaning in different light.

Like Ms Dingo, in five years since cleaning, my walls have never been "sticky" as some are troubled by. There is a particular clear liquid floor wax that some apply to their clean vinyl walls, but I have not. I would think that clean original walls would be of greater value than painted-over vinyl.

It'll probably take a few cleanings. That original vinyl is factory (Kaiser or ALCOA??) bonded to the aluminum, and really high quality tough stuff, way better than paint.

I used 409 on the green scrubber side of a kitchen sponge for the first pass. Squirted 409 back on everything and wiped with paper towelss. Left mine looking like it was 1973 again.

We have used a product called "spray nine" for 25 years on the walls of our 1968 Safarii. First found it at a paint store where it was recommended because it did not leave any residue. It cleans very well but keep windows open for fresh air while working.

Full strength Simple Green. Rinse with plain water.

Skaterio suggest this to me and it worked great on a crusty, sticky 1970.

Water, Ammonia, Dawn dish detergent, and baking soda. Mix for a strong solution and ventilate well when using. Rinse with water. It only took one pass on most of the interior.

Looks great! I know there is no such thing as white in an original 67, lol.. but I think you know what I was going for. I'll show some before and after pictures tomorrow! It's going to be done w help from 2 very non excited, but they're going to get excited teenage girls!
We're going to go with marine clean and see if IRS as good as it sounds!

Next question: pics below tub has a few small cracks and needs repair in that one corner.

Followed by Whitecote POR-15
For gel coat? I heard this Whitecote needs no sanding etc ( just good cleaning) but just brush or spray and you have sturdy, hard, weatherized tub n sink?
We are not removing and dismantling everything.
Just want to get a good clean looking tub.
I wanted to keep original puke 60's yellow, but it needs repair so I guess we'll just have a clean resurfaced white tub.
Anyone work w something better than Whitecote?
Once this is done
Plumbing electrical check
Then countertop (Corian) bamboo floors
And reassemble front gaucho ( new foam)
And twin bed assembly, I'm hoping we're well on our way!!
Decided to keep original lighting just add LED lights


But wow, we've never owned a trailer
Just figuring out how the battery system works and the plumbing and the tubes and the more weird boxes and cords, and stuff and more stuff
It's a little crazy!
