From Carpeted Walls to Polished Aluminum!

So when we first purchased our 2004 19' Bambi last year, it had the carpeted walls and we really liked the look of the bare aluminum finishes in the CCD models...so we took our chances and decided to tackle the carpet removal process. The adhesive removal was quite labor intensive but we are really happy with how it turned out. We decided to leave the bedroom half of the trailer carpeted to keep warmth in during colder months. We also added a few other designer touches here and there.

Just wanted to let people know it is possible, because we were a little hesitant at first. If you have any questions about the process, feel free to give a holler.

Thanks. No, didn't notice any change in acoustics or outside noise...the rain may sound slightly louder, but personally I like that sound.

Wow, congratulations on the makeover. I think you were very smart to leave the mouse fur in the bedroom. Getting the glue off must have been murder. BTW how did you attach the handles to the overhead cabinets? The doors aren't real wood, in fact as I'm sure you know, they are foam core. Did you use washers or a back plate to prevent the screws from pulling through? I like the white paint though it might not be everyone's cuppa tea. You might post what kind of paint you used for others contemplating the changes you've done.

We've been having record cold here in Eastern Virginia and my SE bedroom walls are COLD. I've stacked sofa pillows against the wall next to my bed, and I may seriously consider making fitted wall hangings to go up to the base of the windows. (held on with those removable 3M hooks). I chased down a draft by the door and another coming from my "garage" door. Tightened up the lock on the garage door and put a piece of styrofoam inside it for additional warmth....

COME ON SPRING!

Yeah, I can't imagine how cold it would be being pressed up against the cold aluminum in the winter months, I'm definitely glad we left the mouse fur in the bedroom area.
I attached the cabinet handles with standard screws...the doors were solid enough without the use of a back plate. I figured if the hinge attachments were using only screws it should be strong enough. No issues thus far after 7 months of constant use.
The white paint we used for the cabinets is just standard interior/exterior satin finish house paint. Seems to be very durable.

Have a good one...stay warm. We are in the Florida Panhandle and we have had hard freezes for the last several nights.

The Bambi looks good, you have made it your baby. Stay warm and cozy in it. I think everyone should have an airstream as part of their Earthquake prepardness Kit. It will be the only thing standing when the house falls down.

Hull liner as for boats. Mouse fur as we affectionately call it isn't a lot of help on Google is it?

Eli, love the modifications to the Bambi. It looks really nice . I think the cabinets are sharp and the corkboard over the overhead is a cool idea. Like the fabric. Good idea about keeping the bedroom insulated, good compromise that I think you will appreciate.

My DH likes the accoustics of the subwoofer and no lining to listen to music, and it does sound very good. However I like the insulated hush of outside noises and the warmth of the mouse fur and liner.

Thanks Carol. Somewhere in the past the Flying Cloud I rescued had "hull liner" installed. Its almost a duplicate of my 21' Sovereign. I'm thinking of renewing it.

Does anyone know a good solution for cleaning the "mouse fur." We have a little mildew discoloring near the back window due to all the moisture we had on the east coast this summer...

The inside of the rig looks great. Did you buy new bolsters or just cover the existing ones? I'd like to replace ours but need a source for purchase and so far, no luck.

Thanks Kathleen, we just had our cushions reupholstered. It wasn't cheap, but we priced out a few different places and they all came in about the same.

Great look. How did you remove the adhesive? Did you use a chemical stripper or just soap and water and lots of elbow grease?

Yes..how did you remove the adhesive? Also, I was wondering, we have a 345 LE Moho, and we want to remove the carpet...what will we find underneath? Should we simply cover the carpet with thin aluminum? any thoughts?
