Finally Some of the New Drapes

Well it only took 14 months to finally get around to getting some new drapes put in along with recovering the wall pads. It's a pain to find someone anymore that knows how to sew and will take on a project like this without breaking the bank. Anyway, the old and new for the bed area. The old ones were done at the Mothership in 1989. The front drapes are still under construction.

Your new drapes look very nice. Is the fabric textured? All in all, fourteen months isn't too bad. Drapes are up and looking good ~G

Sewing??

I was lucky enough that my 82 year old mother did ours. Luckly she has taught our daughter to sew as well. How many homes even have a sewing machine anymore ???

Not sure what to call the fabric texture - heavy wove cotton blend and the color stripes are heavy stitching.

These too were made by a older lady - 73 years old that someone at the C/G we are in happened to mention. She did a great job. Unfortunately I didn't have the carriers when she did this set - ended up sewing those on myself. Couldn't get the girls interested enough to do it for me - wasn't too bad once the daughter showed me how to use the machine.

Many thanks to Silverthreads for the suggestion to use the elastic carriers rather than the grid type.

Ummm, I have 4, plus the software to go with the new fangled ones.

BTW I use to be a 'Becky Home Ecky' high school teacher in a former life.

They look great, I just finished mine and those people that do it for a living don't get paid enough. The airstream dealer here in Oklahoma City, OK ask me if I wanted to do it professionaly. I said NOPE not on your life.

Finally The Front Drapes

After more than another year the front drapes finally went in today. The girls wouldn't touch them so again I ended up sewing on the tabs, snaps and the velcro closures. (thinking of taking up sewing for a second career - yeah right).

Several of the wall snaps had to be drilled out and moved. Looks like Airstream moved them once before when they replaced the drapes in the late 80's - so likely the third set in this unit. If you find a local seamtress to do these puppies for you - count your self lucky. This is one Airstream repair job I'm glad is done....

The drapes are beautiful, and lucky for you to have found someone to do them. I remember we all learned basic sewing in Home Economics back in the 60's , seems to be a a mostly lost art these days.

Drape sets are available from Airstream, thru a dealer.

"Drape sets are available from Airstream, thru a dealer." (I can't seem to get part of a post quoted properly)

I know Airstream/other vendors offer them, we don't have drapes in an Interstate. I would imagine having drapes made would allow a larger selection/better quality of fabric, less expense and perhaps overall better quality/craftsmanship? My mother sewed absolutely beautifully, anything she made by hand was far better quality than anything mass-produced.
