Fancy Italian Backsplash!

Here is an idea if you are sick of looking at contact paper on the wall. Peel and Stick has come a long way. The look is realistic gel-like stone.

I'm planning the same project in my bathroom. Did you remove the wallpaper border. If you did what method did you use?

I'm using this product.

No. That stuff is vinyl and on a piece of that brown stuff like peg board is made of over top of the aluminum wall. I considered removing the brown board but then all the spacing would be off from the counter, etc. Just use a degreaser on the vinyl. Your link is to the same stuff. Not cheap but it does look pretty realistic.

expensize but great product.. knocks will be coming soon enough and the price will get down to $5 bucks (1/2 off) a sheet which is 10 x 10..

Started my bathroom back splash using Smart Tiles. I was able to pull off the wallpaper border. Its thin vinyl and peeled off without disturbing the wallpaper covering. I don't think I really needed to pull it and was going to leave it but notice an area close to the countertop where it was bubbling. I think the wallpaper had separated from the luan backer board because at that spot some of the wallpaper (which seems vinyl) peeled off too.

I have one 110v receptacle and after careful measurement was able to get two pieces cut around it. All that remained was the last 2 1/2" at the end of the wall and darn it the last piece I cut wrong. Gotta get another piece today. My Smart Tile is straight on one side and interlocking on the other side and took the measurement wrong on the interlocking side.

Once the backing is removed it is quite thin and flexible. When positioning the material you have to be careful not to apply pressure before you have the position perfect. Putting on the pieces behind the bathroom sink faucets and around the electric receptacle was a challenge.

My backsplash is about a quarter inch taller than the tile square so there is about 1/4" gap between the tiles and the cabinet but you pretty much have to squat down to see it. Standing or sitting on the toilet its not noticeable.

I'll post a photo when complete.

My wife put in the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom is holding up well. The kitchen is another story, the tile is separating from the adhesive back. We do. T use the burners so it is NOT a heat problem. Will have to remove it, what a job!!
We got the product at Home Depot at $10/sheet.

We have some peel and stick tiles waiting for the kitchen and bathroom. They are subway and look like brushed aluminum.

got NEW replacement for kitchen (under warranty) now they are separating and falling off. It is NOT the adhesive holding to wall, it is the individual tiles. They are silver, white and black.
Those in bathroom are like Rodsters and no problem.
The brand we used is "Stickit Tiles"

My second job is installing tile in stick houses.

Cutting small tiles that come in sheets is a bit more tricky than cutting full pieces.

I don't know anything about the stick on tile sheets, or what they are actually made of, or how you cut them, or if you grout them or not. But it seems like real tile might be more weight than I would want to add to a trailer.

It's standard procedure for us to get matching colored caulk and grout. The caulk might work great to fill gaps on the edge and especially the bottoms of the stick on tile. It would prevent water from seeping behind the cabinet. The caulk would also be able to flex along with the trailer.

Accu-tec caulk and grout comes in a whole lot of shades of white, beige and grey.

Hey mandolindave! The hubby has had plenty of experience laying tile. While we like the look of it, we were pretty sure it wasn't a good choice for our trailer. The beauty of peel and stick tile is the variety you can find now. Some of them are actual metal tiles. Others are vinyl sheets, usually in sizes very close to real ceramic, glass or metal mosaic tiles. The vinyl tiles are basically squares of wallpaper with a raised texture. "Grout" lines are included. Some are more heat or waterproof than others. All depends on the backing - paper, foil or PVC. Just have to read descriptions carefully to make sure you're getting the right product for your application.

The type I got from Home Depot is foil backed with a raised vinyl tiles and grout lines. They look realistic yet they are moisture resistant. It does say to keep away from flame.

Ours are foil backed too. Not sure yet if they're going behind the stove. We got a Dometic 434 with a glass lid. The new base cabinets and stove are going in before the tile. Then we can evaluate and see how close they are to the heat. Since the "brushed aluminum" tiles we have look pretty realistic, it might be possible to get a sheet or two of metal peel and stick and blend them. There is already another material covering most of that wall from the upper cabinets. It stops about 6 inches from the countertop, so the tile sheets will be cut in half fill in the remainder.
