dry clean only

just wondering what the best way to wash the bed covers in my Bambi 19. It says dry clean only but can it be washed on gntle or something?

Hello gowyn -- Your profile doesn't begin to state what year trailer you have. That might narrow down what sort of member would be inclined to respond. Speaking for myself, my trailer is stored away from home so I can't just pop out to the driveway to respond, "Hunh, I hadn't read that before!"

I can only imagine -- it could be a mix of synthetic/natural materials with different characteristics -- or else a cotton or wool that would handle a normal wash badly. So please let us know what year Bambi you have. Thanks!

I got grease on our Airstream bedspread and ended up taking it to the dry cleaners. That got out the grease and the bed spread came out in pretty good shape. Based on the materials, I'd go with the dry clean.

Personally that bed spread is sort of funny anyway and of not much value other than as a decorative item. After the cleaning we went out and bought a practical bedspread that looked nice, and packed the Airstream spread in a space bag.

The next time it will go on the bed, the trailer will be for sale. The current spread is now washable in water.

same as jack, first thing we did with the snow-white comforter was put it in the bag that our machine washable comforter came in.

however, that info doesn't help you with your question. With a history of ruining everything in the washer...I would recommend the drycleaner if that's what they recommend. What about the home dry-cleaning kits?

It may be that if you get a classic, the bedspread is decent, but I've got a 06 Safari Special Edition FB SE and an 05 22ft CCD and neither bedspread was great. The one on the Safari looks nice, but was made of upholstery fabric and weighs so much you could get ingrown toenails from sleeping under it. Just go to your local linens store and buy something washable. Mine both sleep in a space bag and only come out for display purposes.

Paula the answer to your question is no on the Classic. Ours is pretty but from a comfort level it's stiff and has no softness. It's display level only and we got tired of removing it every night to put on the sofa to get it off the bed. It doesn't fold well either. I think its purpose in life is to lay flat.

The bed cover on our 05 Bambi was as stiff as a board, had a chemical odor, and was virtually useless. So, figuring we had nothing to lose, we actually washed ours in a machine with some fabric softener, and it came out with no noticeble ill effects. It smelled better, but still had the texture of a canvas tarp. And, like everyone else, we stored ours and got something more practical.
