curtain tracks

My 1963 TradeWind has Plastic "C" channel drapery tracks that used metal "buttons on the curtain tape (much like the button on jeans). I cannot find replacement tabs to fit these tracks for my new curtains. The originals are not reusable.

Where can I buy new tracks (preferably aluminum) to replace these rather cheap looking brown plastic 1963 tracks?

How have others dealt with drapery tracks in vintage Airstreams.

curtain sliders

I have a 68 Overlander that I've only had since October. I was just working on the curtains tonight. I bought the large sew-in-Sliders from Vintagetrailersupply.com Here is the link to their page.
Vintage Trailer Supply - Vintage travel trailer parts and supplies!
They have different styles. The sew in ones have worked well for me.

I do have a question: My trailer came without curtains. Does anyone know how far apart to sew the sliders onto the curtain. I was guessing 2 inches apart, but that seems a little too close together.

Happy camping,
Karen

Curtain Tracks and Sliders

You could get some tracks from a Airsteam boneyard such as Colaws. Put a classified in the forums. There are a lot of Airstreams out there that have had the tracks removed.

The sliders on my curtains are about 3" apart.

Vintage trailer supply has the tracks also. Do you need snap tape? If you have the ones like in my 65 Trdewind, I havent been able to find them anywhere. I dont think they make them anymore. If you need the tape, I can give you a link. They have the snaps also.
Karen, I put pleats every 3" and a carrier between every pleat, hope that helps.

It's available

The snap tape is sold here. I found out through trial and error several years ago that RV snaps are not compatible with the generic snaps available at fabric stores. It is, however, available (although most rv dealers sell them mounted on plastic, which is not useful for curtains).

You will need to sew it in to the back of the curtains. I ended up cutting them up, singing to seal the cut ends and then hand sewing them into my curtain lining, since I had already sewn in pinch pleats. How far apart you space the snaps is entirely discretionary--just do it evenly.

The new curtain railing from Vintage Trailer supply appears to fit the old sliders--but I haven't measured ours yet to be sure. If they fit, I'm definitely going to buy replacements for the old paint encrusted ones we have now.
