Clear Coat on Everything!

I'm trying to figure out what the PO coated everything with. There's a clear (yellowed now) coat on floors, counter top, wall backsplash area, and the entire bathroom. I tried ammonia and water on the floor thinking it might be wax. That's not it. Then I tried fingernail polish remover on the countertop. That's not it! Should I try Zip Strip next?

Could be a polyurethane finish. Years ago it was a miracle finish, applied to everything. Some strippers cut it -- look it up on the internet.
