Rivet Black Spots on Interior Walls, Ceiling

2006 Safari

White fabric wall and ceiling covering is developing black spots in somewhat random locations. One area has several spots in a line as if associated with a rivet line. However, the spots do not align with the exterior. The other areas are not in any alignment. The trailer is stored outdoors but I keep dessicant for dehumidification inside.

I'm concern about leakage or mold from condensation from the aluminum under the fabric wall covering.

Any knowedge or recommendations would be apprciated in order to remedy the problem.

Thanks much, Billie Bob

Billie Bob -- welcome to the forums!

You've got the white fuzzy walls inside? These random spots are usually along interior skin seams. Fine aluminum dust is generated from road rattle & bumps. It works its way through the fuzzy wall coatings and shows up as dark spots.

A remedy ... ? Wish I had that at the tip of my tongue but I have bare metal interior and so haven't had to deal with this. Let's see what others say.

There's a product available called FOLEX that will remove just about anything from fabrics, combine that with a Wet/Dry vac and it may do the trick...Lowes, Home Depot both cary it.

zoomzoom...

while fol'x looks like a safe, low toxicity stain remover...

it appears to be for organic stains and not for disolving/transforming metal compounds ...

so it's doubtful it will have ANY effect on the black aluminum oxide/mixed metal dust stains.

airstream SHOULD be using a membrane/tape/barrier between the metal inner skin/rivets and mouse fur....

so that these aluminum/alloy/misc METAL oxide dust stains don't make it TO the WHITE mouse fur.

((or change to something BETTER than ozite))

the basic question is HOW to get mixed metal oxide dust staining OUT of a polypropylene fabric.

without damaging the glue, fabric or metal backing.

PREVENTION by better assembly techniques would SOLVE the issue.

lotz of old posts on this...

including LINKS to how the MAKERS of ozite recommend cleaning EACH type of stain...
