backsplash wall paper and border removal

Greetings. I want to remove the contact paper and border on the wall of my bath counter backsplash to uncover what I believe will be the bare aluminum. Is that what I will find?

Maybe no one knows the answer.

Is the border original from the factory?

My question would be…Would you really want aluminum in that location. It's hard to clean without scratching it.

They make an adhesive that is made for glueing a new border over what you have, if you don't like what you have.

Yes it is. I took it off last night so it is bare contact paper on the wall.

I don't know about having aluminum other than don't most Airstreams now have bare walls? Maybe I don't want it if it is a problem. I watched a video of a really neat update made on a 1998 motorhome interior. They made everything look new with the modern designs. They used a peel and stick vinyl stuff that looked great in the kitchen and bathroom. I am researching paints that can be used on the contact paper walls that will adhere well and don't get damaged easily (scratch off, etc). What they did to that motorhome makes me want to update a few things.

P.S. MandolinDave, I love that 75' Airstream in your avatar!
