Am I missing the bottom seat cushion?
This is our first AS, a 1965 Caravel. Seems like the bottom cushions are missing from both sofas. The seat my daughter is sitting on has a separate, curved piece attached on the top of it. Take a look and see what you think. (She is so excited about our "new" trailer

It appears you are missing your seat backs, not the bottoms. The "curved" piece of cushion you say is attached to the seat bottoms is probably the small bolster cushion. When the seat back cushion is set in place, the smaller bolster cushion stays put and you roll up your sleeping bag to store it in the space under the shelf. The seat bottom is slid out on its frame and the seat back is then laid beside it to make a bed...roll your sleeping bag back out and you are ready for a good night's sleep.

Funhouse,
Glad to see that you found a nice vintage trailer. After all that worrying. Stop in if you head north.

Thanks Tim
I knew in my heart I wanted an AS, just didn't think I wanted a new one and hoping for an old one nearby seemed impossible! Just then, out of the blue, this little beauty showed up. It was exactly what I wanted all along!!! It will be a little work , but I love vintage airstreams!!!
Is there a post somewhere that shows the gaucho cushions laying out flat? I am totally confused as to what I'm looking for and would like to keep this as original as possible.

Here is a link to the photo album I have on my '64 Bambi II. There are pics here of the seats as seats and folded out as beds. I hope this helps-

Thanks Ben! So, the bottom seat cushion and the seat back are attached together? Plus, there is a third cushion that has a curve on it? Does the curved cushion sit underneath the seat back when it's set up as a sofa? I am wondering why my curved piece is attached to one of the larger cushions. And what happened to the other piece The seller hasn't been able to tell me.

Let me check for sure- but I am fairly certain that the seat bottom and seat back cushions are sewn together. The third smaller cushion, the bolster, is set in place behind the seat back- again to create a space to roll your bedding into during the day. This cushion also makes the overall bed wider. When you pull the bed/seat frame out, the seat back kind of flops down into place...
It makes no sense to me why your small curved bolster and bottom seat cushion would be attached.

caravel sofas
check out my avatar pic. my 65 has 3 pieces per couch. when you pull out the couches, they almost touch at the end and form a 2-adult, 2-kids setup. you seem to be missing the seat backs, which means you can't make a full adult bed. I have more pics of my almost original 65,and I'm right next door (MN) good luck, joe q

Hi , I know this is an older thread... But does anyone have the dimensions for the curved bolster custom for the front gaucho? Ours is totally missing, makes for a very uncomfortable sleep! Thanks!
