Alternative light cover.
I’m looking for an alternative to the white plastic light cover in my 73 Sovereign. I’ve had a hunt on all the Airstream parts websites and can’t find something I really like.
I’ve tried to make one out of tissue/paper mashe but it failed.
I really don’t want to remove the original fixtures.
Has anybody made their own or have any ideas of what I could do as an alternative?
Lucy.

It's the light covers for the light on the ceiling. They are square and have a very thick plastic mesh in the centre.

light lens
The light lens in question, is 17 inches square and was used in Airstream's 1972 to 1977 models only.
Anyone have an idea for a good replacement?

Okay - here's copies of the pics that I saved. I cannot, for the life of me, remember which AirForum Member did this - but it's in here somewhere! And instructions for making it I believe.
You might also want to look at Sergi's lengthy thread about his work - really great. He modified an Ikea overhead light http://www.airforums.com/forums/f227...tml#post439685 Might give you an idea of what you can do with modern fixtures.

Found it!
The Al replacement covers were made by Trevis. Here's his thread: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f447...ent-43745.html
and you can see more of his pics by going to the Gallery portion of this: Airstream Forums - View Profile: trevisgardne
Come to think of it, I'm not certain if that first picture is from Trevis or not ... it's a little different - but GOOD too.
Man - love it when I can actually find something!!! I use the Search function a-lot on this forum. Sometimes I even go to Gallery and then Search to find the pictures... and sometimes when I can remember exactly what/who's thread something of interest was in, but the thread is really long, I use the Search In This Thread.
Whew - keep posting pics of your work - really cool ideas.

Ahhhh - I really should be on my way home but I got to thinking about that first picture....
It belongs to Sneakinup -and I think he's since sold his beautiful trailer. But, check out his gallery at - Photo Gallery to see more pics of his replacement light fixture.

Hi Laura.
Thank you for such a brilliant reply. The first photo light cover is AMAZING. It is exactly what I wanted for my trailer.
Snekinups trailer is great, I especially like the way he had painted the front end cap.
However since posting this thread I have managed to persuade my Dad that we should replace the old lights with down lit tilting spots as they light the space better and are far more streamlined.
I will still check out all the threads you mentioned though.
Thank you again for your advice and spiffing searching skills,
Lucy.
