1969 Ceiling

We just installed a Fantastic fan and discovered the inside vent insert doesn't fit. Sent photos to Vintage Trailer Supply and they have never seen an A/S with this type of ceiling. I am wondering if anyone else has this type of ceiling. I do know the 1969 models are the odd ducks in the A/S, kind of put together with left over parts and parts never installed in any other model. But was a total surprise that Vintage Trailer Supply had never seen this type of ceiling in an A/S.

I put some attachments I hope they open one is a PDF file.

Here's a photo from the Vintage Airstreams photo archives. Shows the same style "step or tray ceiling" - notice the air conditioner (or maybe it's a vent) mounting.

It would have be nice if our vent fan cover overlapped the ridges, but the cover stops right at the edge and the screw would be going into empty space. I have found out form another 69 owner he has the same type of ceiling so ours is the origional from the manufacture. We are going to fabricate strips of wood to fit into the void. As we had placed 2X2 in the ceiling between the outer skin and ceiling before we mounted the new Fantastic Fan. This will give us extra support to screw in the spacers. We can paint the wood spacers so we don't have a gap in the front and back.

Thanks Ganglin for the photo. I should have gone out the the archives and looked.

Your ceiling was the 1969 standard.

Contrary to some opinions, 69's were not made with left over parts.

The 69's were the first of a major redesign, that unfortunately had some issues.

Thanks Andy, we do love our 1969 and she "Maxine" is starting to get a second wind. We have worked on her for over a year. We want to keep her as origional as she was when she came off the assembly line, with the exceptions of parts that have wore out after 39 years.
