Vail Pass summit

Hello, Boondockers!

I don't know where this will go, but I thought I'd start posting my favorite boondock locations and see what others can add.

To start with, let's park on the Vail Pass summit, like 11,000', in one of the nicest little campsites around. There's a great little fishing lake, forest service outhouse, creek, and the bike path from Vail to Breckenridge runs right by.

Directions: Take the Vail Pass rest stop exit on I-70. Proceed towards the rest stop, but take the first right turn (heading west) on the south side of the highway. Go downhill about 1/2 mile, past the lake about 200 yards, turn left into the campsite. In the right photo, the lake is to the right and, no, that two-wheel track is NOT the entrance to the campsite--there are two very nice driveway entrances. You can't pass the camp--the road is blocked and only bicycles can go further along the trail to Vail.

Is this an acceptable stop for a couple of nights or just a quick overnight? Looks great!

Shari,

Congrats on your famous photo. All my posts will be for places you can stay more than one night, but I have no clue if a week is too much.

Black Lakes

I just stopped here on my way to and from Utah. Great place to stop for the night. Both times we arrived about 4:00 in the afternoon. There were a few people fishing. Good scenery and a bunch of marmots running around. Just make sure your furnace works, it got pretty cold even in late June-early July.

Oh Sorry!
It's the same place Zeppelinium mentioned.
Just thought I'd add a few more pics

How about a map link? I am "clueless" exactly where it is or what road it is on... Vail, Colorado? Looks very cool and nice!
