Our trip to AZ

We went to Yucca, Arizona a few weeks ago and this is the beautiful sunset we were treated to. Then, we watched the most spectacular thunder storm I'd ever seen. I've never seen horizontal lightening before, but wow!

Lightning in an A.S.

Hmmm,
I've never thought about being in my A.S. in a thunderstorm. Did it make you at all nervous? (Aluminum, Good conductor, etc, etc)
I love a good thunderstorm, I've just never thought about the lightning/aluminum aspect. BTW - Great Photos!

No worries about lightning in an A/S. The Farriday effect is your pal. In essence the lightning runs along the outside of metal objects. Thats why lightning does not hurt airplanes.

OK, Having little knowlege in this area I'll go along with that. But what does it do to the 'Stream since it's on the ground?

The electricity sheets along the outside of the A/S and into the ground. Once it hits the dirt it disapates.

Well let's just say I wouldn't go chasing a storm in an AS but it happen to find us. However, it never made it close enough to us to get me thinking... it was off in the distance but close enough to enjoy the show.

Wait a minute .... the lightning sheets around the airstream and then into the ground? Does that mean that if it's Lightening outside you better be 'IN' it? Not 'NEXT' to? also gee..it still sounds scary...would we be 'grounded' and then if we touch the aluminum in the trailer we could get 'FRIED?'

Anyway...so much for being scared...whatever! I really wanted to point out that the photo is just FABULOUS and you might want to enter it into the September Photo Thread since there's now a PRIZE of the Blue Forum numbers going to the winner!

Just a thought!

I didn't think it would qualify for the topic for September.

Yeah, you should think about it if not too late. I like the one on the right a little better. 2 cents.
