We are going to be in Olympic NP mid July for approx 10 days and wanted to see if anyone had recommendations for campgrounds, from some of the travel guides I have read they seem to not recommend trailers over 21' (we have a 25' Safari). We are primarily looking for scenic beauty, we would probably move once or twice to different areas of the park.

Greg, There are several parks on the Hood Cannal side (US 101) that will accomodate 25' trailers easily. Lake Cushman, Hoodsport, and a couple more come to mind. Ft. Flagler State Park at Port Townsend is nice ("Officer and a Gentleman" fame) but they only take direct reservations, not through the Washington State Park reservation system. The west end of Crescent Lake has a nice campground. Sol Duc Hot springs may have RV facilities. Further around the west side of the park is pretty sparse until you get farther south. I'd suggest staying on the east side and making day trips to Hurricane Ridge south of Port Angeles. There is an RV park in downtown P.A. that is very convenient to the Victoria ferry (Blackball) which takes just over an hour to get from P.A. to Victoria. Walk-on is best since everything to see in Victoria is within walking distance and you avoid the car parking problem. Busses to Buchart Gardens from the Empress Hotel. Check the Washington State Parks website for details on campgrounds. There are several private camps on the Hood Canal section, too, but they usually fill with regulars. Darol
Do not miss the Washington beaches. Many camp ground state and private along the Washington coast. Some are right next to the water. Cresent Lake is a must along with the above mentioned by Ingalls. By all means go to Victoria BC and Burchart Gardens. Take a ride on the English Two decker buses. You can take your car but not nescessary as mentioned but Vancouver Island has a lot to see. AND,,,IF YOU HAVE THE TIME .....TAKE THE FERRY RIDE TO SIDNEY BC FROM ANACORTIS WASHINGTON THROUGH THE ISLANDS. Washington is one of the most diverse and constrasting states in the US. Enjoy....and o ya...Ft. Flagler state part....beaaauuutiiful.
Back in my motor-homing days, I went to Olympic SP and we 'camped' at a CG owned by the local Native American tribe. The actual CG was nothing special just the usual full hook-ups; but it was right on the beach!!!!
It was one of the most spectacular places, visually speaking, that I have stayed at. Olympic NP was also quite spectacular!
We looped the Olympics last year, stayed at Fort Flagler, Salt Creek (West of Port Angeles) and Kalaloch. All were great stops. Kalaloch was the only NP campground. Recommend Salt Creek for the tide pools even if you don't camp there.

We were in this area in late February, unfortunately without our Airstream. I agree with the suggestions already mentioned. We took the ferry from Anacortes to Sydney... absolutely fabulous. Spent several wonderful days in Victoria, including a spectacular trip to Buchart Gardens. Then took the MV Coho (a ferry) from Victoria to Port Angeles... wow!. Can't say enough about this beautiful part of the country. Ferry fares are very reasonable... until you take your TV and Airstream.. then it gets a bit steep. Staying in Olympic NP and taking the ferry for a day trip to Victoria is very doable. We stopped at the visitor center for Olympic NP, since I'm sure we will return with our Airstream. They were VERY helpful in suggesting campgrounds that would accommodate our 22' AS. Check the national park website; I'm sure it will be helpful in selecting a campground for you 25 footer.
