Well...

Well, there aren't any freebies that come to mind BUT if you come down to Cardiff By the Sea and stay (not free but cheap) at San Elijo Campground on the beach, I'll bring a free bottle of wine (or whatever) down and visit you! It's a great campground! If you like to camp in county parks... up in the mountains, in Julian, CA there is a very inexpensive campground, William Heise County Park, which is terrific, too!

there's not much for free in the los angeles area, however, where i live in venice there is a certain street that seems to be home to an array of dicrepid, smelly, and rundown SOB motor homes (much worse than the worse house on the block kind of thing) that people actually live in and they are allowed to park overnite. these vehicle do not look road worthy and i haven't seen them move much.

Any chance of you telling us what that street's name is? I have been looking for a place to be able to overnight our trailer somewhere near us in Venice if we want to pick up our trailer from storage and start from home. We cannot park it at our house. thanks, pj

This forum is the best. Where else can you go to find
a "street that seems to be home to an array of dicrepid, smelly, and rundown SOB motor homes" in a town near you?

Have you checked this?

Bob Thompson has a list (some items may be outdated, not exactly sure when he created the list...) for cheap or free in California... maybe something will strike your fancy!

How about your local WalMart? If I'm not mistaken, its okay with the management. We visit Bellingham Wash. often, and the parking lot is loaded with RV's of all sizes. Jim, BC Canada

it's not as cool as HB, but there is another place in SoCal that I see some campers park overnight (possibly smelly, decrepid, etc) but at least near a hipster area of SilverLake....and also interstate 5 close.

Along Riverside drive, just west and parallel to the freeway, south of the glendale blvd, north of fletcher. Close to Griffith Park, LA Zoo, Dodger Stadium.

just googlemap "rudolpho's 90039", switch to hybrid view, zoom in and go north on riverside and you'll see lot's of space on the west side of the street...as of now there are no signs there that prohibit parking...I often see a few old junkers along there - and one cool hotdog like psuedo-AS - I should post a photo for kicks!

OK....try these, not free but not bad for southern Cal:
1. BLM near Joshua Tree:http://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisi...d/overflow.pdf
2. Silverwood Lake SRA: Silverwood Lake SRA
3. Chino Hill SP: Chino Hills SP
4. Castaic Lake: C A S T A I C** L A K E* Homepage (presently being renovated)
5. Angeles Nat Forest several campgrounds: Angeles National Forest Campgrounds some of these campgrounds have been impacted by recent fires and subsequent heavy rains causing landslides!
