I don't know whether you'd call it camping or not, but for an overnight stay we ususally try to stay at the Interstate RV Park in Davenport.
On our annuals trip across Iowa, to and from PA and MT, the other campgrounds we've stayed at in Iowa, all close to the interstates, have been mostly forgettable.
Try Squaw Creek County Park. WE at all sites. Dump station.
I believe the new showers are done. It is off hwy 100, just west of 13/151, Cedar Rapids.
Nice golf course in the park.
We stayed at Whitebreast Rec. area last April for the Pella Tulip Festival. They have 5 separate campgrounds and one is nicer than the next. It's run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Red Rock is about halfway between Knoxville and Pella. Lake Red Rock is for flood control of the Des Moines River.
July of 2007 we stayed overnight at Guttenberg in a state park. It overlooked the Mississippi. Another beautiful spot, of course it's IOWA!
There are tons of good campgrounds in Iowa... most of them county parks. Which part of the state do you want to know about?

I am from the Western side of Iowa in Sioux City...But grew up in Des Moines...Would like to know about all over Iowa...Not just specific to where I am located...

No, I don't work for them; but Good Sam has two publications that are great. The RV Road Atlas and Trailer Life Directory. I use both when traveling. The Atlas Lists numerous Campgrounds (not just Good Sam) and if I don't see anything in the area I start looking at the cities in the Directory. The Direcory gives a discription of the campgrounds and directions.
Watch for the sales at CW, they are listed there.
Enjoy IOWA and have a safe trip and good camping

i am a big fan of the scott county parks in the quad cities area.
in particular the summit campground in the west lake park. it is west of davenport. we stay there every year for the AMCA national motorcycle swap meet and races.
