George Washington National Forest in Virginia
I'll be the first to represent the South Region for Boonedocking. We love the remote beauty of the Appalachian Mountains near the Virginia / West Virginia border. North River Campground in the George Washington NF is not your typical campground. It doesn't have separate pads for RVs. It is a open park setting with a loop road. You camp where you want. It's easy to get an Airstream in and out. Most of the time, especially during the week, we are to only ones there. It has a hand pump well for water and pit privys. A dump station is about 2 miles away at a more traditional campground, Todd Lake. There is a daily fee of $5.00. While not true "Boondocking", it pretty darn close. As a matter of fact, there are some pull offs before you get to the campground that are free, but it might be tough getting a longer Airstream in and out.
