We stayed one night at Milford Lake several weeks ago. Just west of Manhattan, Ks. There are several campgrounds but we stayed at the Corps. of Engineers one. No hookups, water and restrooms available. Regular fee is $8 but with my NP Access pass it was $4. We had the place all to ourselves. Nice sites right on the lake.

It's a little past your desired range, but last year I spent a few days on Kanopolis Lake near Marquette, KS. There's a State Park there with decent facilities and a federal campground on the other side of the lake. There was virtually no one there. I expect the lake is down due to the lack of rain, but you can no doubt check online or call and ask. There used to be trout fishing in the dam's tailwaters ...

IIRC, there are electric hookups both places, but I'm not totally sure about that. It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

You might check Pamona Lake and Lake Perry in the Topeka/Lawrence area. I've not camped in the area, myself.

Melvern Lake is a nice lake you have a State and Federal Park to choose from. It is south on I35 about hour from Olathe.
