Question Where to boondock in Anza Borrego

Does anyone know of a good place to boondock in Anza Borrego? We've stayed in the campground several times, but would love to try boondocking. We've never boondocked before, so we'd like to get some advice on where a good spot might be. We explored in our 4WD vehicle the last time we were there, but the unpaved roads seemed pretty rough to take the Airstream. Also, has anyone had any problems leaving your Airstream to go off hiking or exploring? We have a 25 Safari. Thanks.

Silverhawk25,

There is an area north east of town, called Pegleg, I believe, where many are parked. I would ask the park ranger about boondocking areas.

Right you are azflycaster!

Hi Silver, I've fallin in love with the area

Great open space, private land, the whole Clark Valley at your feet. Some of the best hiking I've ever been on.

Services: water, dump, propane, fresh produce, mail just 8 miles away in Borrego Springs.

While there are many places for dispersed camping, here is a good place to start.

Az is right, Peglegs is on the corner, but a bit to packed in for me.

The desert is in full bloom now!

Conveniently located off of mile marker 27 highway S22

GPS: 33.300.116n 116.28044w.

I will be here till Tues, than moving to La Quinta to exhibit my Abstract Paintings for a week. I will be back for a bit afterward. March 16 to the end of the month, I think.

If you like, you can PM me for my Cell number!

PS, don't forget to make a reservation at "Michael's Boondocker's Cafe"

Michael,

Are you sure that you have the GPS coordinates correct? I cannot locate them on a map, except to put you in Riverside County near Anza and not in San Diego County.

Hmmmm... you don't think he's deliberately giving incorrect coordinates to keep people away from his secret campsite, do you...?

Boondock Anza Borrego

Just east of Pegleg, there is a dry lake to the north. There are some great spots near the mountain range to the west, just before you get to the dry lake. We took our 25' out there for five days.
