Not necessarily, since some campgrounds are not of the "boondocking" variety...and many boondocking sites are not contained within actual campgrounds.

You're right...but we are friends - not strangers and it was by choice! There were twelve of us total...including 2 SOBs and a sheepherders wagon.

highway 1 between half moon bay and santa cruz

these are a couple a spots we had last weekend..
not good for setting up outside, but for a movie and bedtime it was fine.
also the price was right..
i suppose there is an element of risk, with traffic and all.
perhaps, we will do better next time.
i was told that one can legally park overnight in a pullout.
maybe that is for the cal highways...
the third pic is from earlier this month, north of bodega bay, wrights beach.
we had to park near the kiosk, as we were part of the overflow
