Tips for Boondocking

Greetings.

I have never boondocked. I just recently purchased a generator and have the ability to now boondock but I am not sure the best way to approach it. I live in FL and the Walmarts in my area do not allow boon docking. So, my question to the forum is when on the road, how do you locate places that you can stay without trouble?

Any wilderness, Federal or State land you can boondock on? Nicer view that a Wally world.

Use ALLSTAYS Camp & RV app on an iPhone or on-line to locate Federal BLM or State areas for boondocking. It also lists highway rest stops where 12 hr stays may be permitted. And yes, it lists WM's, although you can certainly find a nicer place to camp.

Ocala National Forest has several primitive camping areas and there is some dispersed camping as well. Most beach communities will frown on basic boon docking, as does all of Monroe County.

Big Cypress National Preserve has some prett rustic camping areas as well.

Enjoy

If you're just looking for a place to stop overnight en route to somewhere elseó which I assume you're asking about since you mentioned Walmartó many churches will allow you to park overnight in their parking lots.

And you can usually find churches in better neighborhoods than Walmarts, too.

If you're looking to boondock someplace scenic, and not just an overnight stop before hitting the road again, several Corps of Engineers lake projects have primitive campsites associate with the lake. Check out www.CorpsLakes.us - Corps Lakes Gateway for more details.

National FORESTS have what they call dispersed camping. Free and most anywhere you can get your rig to. They also have traditional campsites and charge for them. You don't need a generator to do this your only limitation is your battery power.
( Unless you are in hot climates and want AC). There's a thread here a few pages back titled
Cheap or Free in Florida. Lots of good suggestions there. Florida is probably one of the more limiting areas though so you will need to do your homework. Western states are much more available.

See ya on the road sometime.
