Thought Experiment: Removing the A/C

It would say a lot about temperaments if a thread about removing an A/C were to "go ballistic"...

justsayin....

Maybe the discussion might move to "public safety" where the discussion could be leveraged to include public safety regarding using or not using air conditioning?

Doug... it's be a pity to stifle healthy discussion. I'm sure you weren't about to shout, but you're just concerned about waking up the shouters.

Just don't mention the word dee-oh-dee-jee-ee and we're probably safe.

Or air conditioner induced hypoxia, (it is real) it induces a temporary vegetative state lasting for hours on end, particularly while the victim is watching television...

Or on the other end of the spectrum we have "hyper perspirative derma textile fusion syndrome" where lack of air conditioning can cause induce excess perspiration to the extent that skin will actually intermingle with and fuse to any fabric it is in contact with.

This syndrome is responsible for many 911 calls particularly in the south and the desert southwest.

Not going to offend me with the discussion. The thread was started in hopes of further discussion and I'm fine with going off the rails. I usually stir the pot around here anyways. I knew it might be to crazy for the park going Airstreamers who can't understand not living in 72 degree climate controlled weather with satellite TV at all times so they can watch Fox News and yell at the commentators.

Jump a few decades in to the future, McFly, and come back and see what your old self says about "needing" air conditioning then.

It's your trailer, you don't need permission to do what you want to it! I'd just make sure the existing electric connections are tied off safely and the new fan is well sealed from rain

My thoughts. One we need our AC units as we camp in sometimes extremely hot weather, ie Lake Powell in August, but that is us. You might need it sometime if you have to attend a family emergency and it's hot.

Another thought I have not seen discussed is the heat pump. While camping in 30 degree weather our 2015 furnace made the decision to not work and as such we turned on the Heat Pumps, we have two AC units. At 30 degrees they were marginal at best, but did take the chill out. As temps outside approached 45 degrees the Heat pumps did a good job.

Other than those two thoughts I'd do what you want. I have and as long as I can change everything we buy to accommodate our tastes and life style.

I realize you boondock a lot but not having the AC makes your travels less flexible. Why don't you wait until next summer before installing a new fan. Winter is coming and by next summer you may change your mind.

My guess is that Bold had decided what to do even before he created the thread..... Knowing it would be controversial from the get go... Not that I would ever do that..

This thought has crossed my mind. Maybe what we could do is a log and count over a whole summer; A/C use vs non A/C use. And log how many times I wish I had it.

As stated earlier, I don't have a companion. But with a number count, I could determine better, fan replacement or buy a companion generator.

Nah, but I was hoping for more opinions from people who do boondock and travel lite like Doug. And Lew pretty much answered my question about hole size.

I knew the rest of the feedback would be mostly from folks who think about resale and how they couldn't do without. No problem with it. But eventually it does get into, "Ok we got it".
