Southwest vs West

I am having to get my head around the fact that the southwest only incorporates OK, AZ, NM and TX. I actually googled to find out what the regions entailed. Oh you moderators sure are good. Still, I have always felt that NV and Southern CA and Southwest CO should be in there. But that's just a mental thing.

We MUST go with with the correct regions or it would be too difficult to find what you are looking for.

Thanks so much for creating the boondocking forum. Thanks Zep for the suggestion.

I agree, however the regions were set up to match the the already established ones in the "Campgrounds" tab above...I will bring this up to the mod team to see if the whole region thing should be re-visited.

Regions like the "southwest" are strictly mental representations: They are what you think they are. Alas, when these representations are turned into strict limits (as on a forum), we discover that our mental representations of place don't all match.

When I created my poll (http://www.airforums.com/forum...oll-21413.html) of which region in the US to hold a regional forum rally, I did some research on what the region definitions were. There are a few different definitions out there so I had to decide which one to choose. The one I ended up choosing was the regional definition defined by the census bureau as that is also the regional definitions accepted by marketing firms etc. who base their mailings off of census bureau data:

Northeast -- New England (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT)
Northeast -- Middle Atlantic (NJ, NY, PA)
South -- South Atlantic (DE, FL, GA, MD, NC, SC, VA, WV)
South -- East South Central (AL, KY, MS, TN)
South -- West South Central (AR, LA, OK, TX)
Midwest -- East North Central (IL, IN, MI, OH, WI)
Midwest -- West North Central (IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND, SD)
West -- Mountain (AZ, CO, ID, MT, NE, NM, UT, WY)
West -- Pacific (AK, CA, HI, OR, WA)

The bottom line, I think, it doesn't matter how you divide the country into regions, what matters is that you simply define how you are doing it so everyone is on the same page (whether or not they AGREE with your definition is a different story)!

No Quit!

Yikes! I was just expressing my mental picture! Sorry, more than happy to oblige to these regions. Didn't mean to create a firestorm.

hi 'gypsy and others...

zed......where are ya......got those pictures handy.......reload....

'gypsy....
you aren't causing a firestorm...by just thinking and asking......that is the good stuff...

i too thank the mods for this work.....and offer a suggestion.....

too many regions.......too much thinking......here or there......

how about just 2 regions......like east/west....with mississippi river as the line......

or 4........by time zones........

time zones are pretty clear and mapped...except for that those odd islands...in hoozer land....

as the list progresses.......and after it's obvious most of the sites are in certain regions....those regions could be subdivided.....if necessary.....by each state if needed.

'mid atlantic, new england and southeast do have lots of people...but for that very reason.....will not bring many boondock finds......

boondocking sites in d.c.?.
sure, like on the white house lawn or next to the reflecting pool....

again this is gonna be great stuff....

cheers
