Yeah, I just wish he'd come out of his shell. He's so reserved.

I love it when men have the courage to say exactly what they are thinking.

We lost that sometime ago in America and we are suffering for it Imo.

Here's how you can do it without your neighbours even knowing you have a generator(and probably not get caught either).

- get an outside campsite on an outside loop or road (i.e no one behind you).
- get a campsite with a reasonable degree of privacy and a buffer between you and the neighbouring sites.
- if you can find a clear spot away from the campsite for the genny that is great
- point the exhaust (and noise) away from the campground - use your trailer as a bit of a sound buffer.
- fire it up when neighbours are away and/or there is a bit of a breeze to help mask the sound.
- nix appliances/devices that are going to rev up the genny.
- don't run the generator any more than you need to.

Contrary to most generator rules in parks that do allow them - one of the best times to avoid disturbing a neighbour is in the afternoon when most folks are away and the breeze/wind is up.

One other thing that I have done when all the ducks don't quite line up is to fire up the genny - then go talk to your neighbours and ask them if that level of noise will bother them and if there is a better time to run it. Without exception - they didn't notice that the genny was running - appreciated being asked - and had no problems with us charging the battery.

Jay, I'm with you on all counts. I don't have choice of sites though..they're all full up. However, my site does back up to a tree buffer and the park road, which usually has traffic on it. No neighbors behind. I probably all good.

I wanted to chime in and let all you "stealth streamers" know how much I've enjoyed this thread!
We live in a state which prohibits ETOH (adult beverages) in all state parks & our first shake down was a bit disappointing due to mixup & very limited pet sites. Not to drift from the theme here but " operating stealth mode" really applies to many situations other than generators. When we learned about our confirmed pet friendly site was a "no pet site" & no slack from state park authority....we consider taking our 18 yr. old pup & wrapping up like a swaddled baby for deep woods potty breaks. Unfortunately, she did not go on our first trip but will be going on all future trips. We have many alternative means for stealth beverage consumption but no need to bore anyone.

With upcoming first two week trip next month, we are camping w/o hookups & 2000i generator but some concern about our lack of experience & not wanting to "crimp our style" to be mandated to schedule 8-11 & 4-8 for generators allowed. Have adapted vacation habit of removing watch upon arrival & only reapplying first day back to work. This is real R& R for me as my professional role requires clinical studies where I'm required to document hrs./min. /seconds....so off with the watch & zone out. So my plan is....if ranger comes knocking on my door to remind me of official generator hours...oh sorry Mr. Ranger...guess I lost track of time, or dead battery & clock must have stopped. Cannot really see myself paddling the kayak faster or running down a mountain to return to camp to run genny by 4 PM. I'm not planning to break the rules but will resort to "stealth ops" if needed.

If you have no regulations, you have anarchy. Seems to be the theme for most today. Jim

What would you rather have. Anti noise and generater rules, or fifty commercial genies going all at once with outside stereos at full volume to compensate? Jim

Operating in "stealth" mode

I said way early in this thread that generator use should be regulated by Decibel, not arbitrary bans.

Why is it trendy today to say anyone who promotes common sense liberty is an anarchist?

All too often mutual exclusivity is claimed where it does not exist. This is a logical fallacy.

On a broader note,,, if ignorance of the law is no excuse,,,, who knows all of the law verbatim?

It is time that we all started requiring common sense and restraint in our regulation.

Have you seen these? They work very well
I've seen them at Pilot / Flying J stops. On eBay as well.

I am all for common sense. But intentionally violating a rule or law is not common sense. It is anarchy or a sense of not conforming to the norm, which is the reason we have so many rules. People who want to be different or nonconformists at expense of others peace. Some want to find a way around the no generator rule by non conforming while others may use the same reasoning to do whatever they want in the campground. There are lots of places to camp that yup can run your generator all the time, I stay at those places mostly, if I need my genny. Why try to change something that most people would agree with? Just a different way to look at it. Jim
