Olallie Lake - Oregon
One of my favorite places to boondock is the Olallie Lake National Scenic Area . There are three campgrounds at the lake and there are two more up the road at two smaller lakes. Click on the link and you'll see the info on the small resort there plus some info on the trophy brood trout that the lake holds. The road then becomes only suitable for 4x4's only. It continues up to Breitenbush Lake and the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness Area which is spectacular too.
There are no hook ups, no cell service and no internet. Just peace and quiet !
The road up there is paved most of the way. The last thirteen miles is gravel that is usually in pretty good shape. The spring thaw can make the road pretty muddy but not soupy, they fix it up pretty quickly after the run-off stops. There are very few sites that will hold anything above a 25ft trailer. I did see I 5'er up there once. Check it out.
The picture on top is Olallie with Mt Jefferson in the background.
The bottom picture is from a viewpoint with Olallie in the back and Monon Lake in the front.

It is actually closer to Salem than it is to Portland. I think 2 hrs oughta get you there from Salem. I'll be going up there after the Silver Falls Forums Rally.
It might be tough to find a site to fit your 29' up there. There are a few sites though, that are long enough for that. Do you intend on taking your AS up there ? or just a day trip ? A day trip is a long haul from Portland. It is over 100 miles from Portland. I think right around 110.

We have received Montana, Idaho, Oregon, & Washington tourist packets. Plan to come across lower Montana & Idaho and into Oregon by mid June. Plan to be at the rally by the 18th of June.
We are signed on the maple leaf caravan after the rally.
Absolutely can't wait !!!!!!

I have been all along the coast from Astoria to Bandon but never inland or with the trailer. From the areas I've seen, you guys have one beautiful state. Retirement may bring a new address for us.

I thought I'd shoot a pic of the place I boondocked a couple weeks ago. It is called Monon Lake. Its just up the road from Olallie Lake. It is completely free and right next to the water.
The road was a little rougher than it was last year, but I took it easy. 10 to 20 mph. It was soo quiet you could hear a pin drop the first two nights I was there. The first night I was the only camper at the lake. You can see the rest of the pics here.

A coworker of mine was up there a couple weeks ago, and my first question when he told me about it was 'can we fit RVs in there?' It looks beautiful, Chris, thanks for the pics!

Nice pics Chris! What a great spot?
How were the mosquitos? We were up a Waldo lake 2 weeks ago and got eaten alive!

Olallie Lake is one of my favorite places as well. We were there for a week the first part of July. I have to admit I did not take the A/S. I had to choose between two pieces of aluminum, the A/S or the boat - the boat won.
The photo is just after sunset, from the middle of the lake. The mosquitos only seemed to be a problem first thing in the morning and in the evening.
I did not find a 5lb trout though the darn one pound ones kept getting in the way!
