Ohio Amish Country

We plan to stop by Lehmans ( www.lehmans.com ) in Kidron, OH, in a couple of weeks when we return from a camping trip in Gettysburg.

Does anyone know of cheap or, better yet, free camping in the Kidron / Sugarcreek area? We will only be staying one night. Is it possible to camp in the park where the Swiss Festival rally is held? If so, who do you contact?

Any help or suggestions would br greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dave

campground

We just spent three hours at Lehman's this week on a trip to Salt Fork SP. It is an awesome store, but plan on taking a long visit there. There is much to see and do in that area, especially if you like to drive around and do visits to different little places. The camping places are there, but I don't know if there are any cheap or free ones. The Amish run a couple of camping "resorts" which are a little on the pricey side.

Sorry that we are out of your way for this one. We welcome you to visit if you get this way. We have free courtesy parking! Larry is looking at a map. If he finds something that we have forgotten about we will ping you!

We are 30 mi. SW of Cleveland and about 1.5 hrs. north of Kidron.

Don't know anything about camping availability, but be sure to eat a family style meal while in the area. The food is wonderful and Lehman's is a great place. Travel safe.

OK - I have some more info on the park in Sugarcreek where the Swiss Festival Rally is held.

It is called Winklepleck Campgrounds. It is located at:
2800 Winklepleck Road NW, Sugarcreek, Ohio 44681

Camping is $15 a night for a water & electric site. I am not sure if they have a dump station or not.

You have to stop by City Hall to pick up a camping permit. They are open 8-5 M-F and are located at 410 S. Broadway. Phone is (330) 852-4112.

If you arrive after hours, go ahead and set up and let the police know when they patrol the area that you will register the next AM.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think that $15 a night for water & electric is a good deal.

sounds good

Glad that you were able to contact them and find out more. Hope you have a good time. Since it is a popular weekend, you may want to arrive early!! in the day!
See you down the road.
