West Mt. Hood/River area Oregon

Hi,
We're looking for boondocking spots near Mt Hood or the Hood River area. Forest service or BLM campgrounds are fine too, but we're looking for other options than the State Parks. We have a 28' trailer and we're 50' total with tow rig.
Water hook up is nice, but we can go for true boondocking as well. Safety, serenity and scenic are the key words.
We're 2 weeks into our first trip and we are loving the 'stream life. Out on the road for 3 months- western states voyage.

Hi David, Most of the boondocking campgrounds near Hood River are closed right now due to a forest fire. There are, however, some decent full service campgrounds closer to HR that are still open. As of today State Hwy 35 is open to traffic but, expect lengthy delays. They are using pilot cars through the burn area.

Try Lawrence Lake, I believe that is still open.

There are some nice campgrounds just outside Hood River: Tucker Park & Toll Bridge Park come to mind. The Mt Hood fire has closed many of the camping spots on the approach to Mt Hood from Hood River, like Sherwood and Robin Hood campgrounds on Hwy 35. Also, there are lots of great spots off Hwy 44, but they are also closed at the moment. The Lost Lake campground is also open, but very full due to all of the other closures.

I'll ask around to see if anything else closer in toward Mt Hood is currently open . When are you planning your trip?

I know you said no SP's but this one is a jewel. We had a forums rally here a year ago in the middle of November. It's about 40 miles east of Hood River at the confluence of the Deschutes and Columbia Rivers. There are spots you can have no hookups if desired. You will like the tranquil setting and you're just a short jaunt from the bridge at Biggs to cross the Columbia River into Washington. I've included a few pics of the CG below.

tornato-bait---jordancvm is right, it is a nice park, but be advised that it can be quite busy this time of year because of salmon and steelhead fishing that will be going on right through Sept.

We ended up at Ainsworth State park for the long weekend and now we're up at a lovely and deserted Lost Lake. Off to Descutes tomorrow and then to the Wallowa Valley. Any boondocking ideas for there?

Wish I had known you were at LL. I was just up there for a killer 50 mile bike ride thru Whatum Lake and Lost Lake and stopped at the lodge for lunch.

This is a very old post; however, was wondering if anyone has any new suggestions to scenic boondocking sites near the hood river area and/or Mt. Hood? When this was posted most of the campgrounds were closed due to forest fires....but now? Thanks so much!
