Making good toast
I am looking for the solution for making toast when boon docking. We have tried the one that goes on the stove top burner, But it dose not work that well.
Anyone have a better way to make toast when no electric is available
Thanks

Camp toast fried in a pan using good old healthy bacon grease. Nothing beats it for taste.

I guess it depends on your idea of good toast. I'd think you could get it good and toasty/crunchy in the oven on the rack. I like to butter it and put it on the cast iron skillet.

Fried bread toast is good, so are fried toaster waffles. Just put the toast butter on the bread you would use after normal toasting, and pan fry for a minute or two per side. Don't butter a second time.
I also use a regular home toaster (800 watts) and plug it into my factory 1000 watt inverter. It takes 90 amps at 12 volts but only for about 3 minutes, so the total use of the battery is not bad for two slices. Now, for a family it would be a different story.

Get old fashioned toasting forks.
You can order them online. Toast over your propane or a fire.

Do you have a "Broil" setting on your oven? Got one on my old Magic Chef. Nothing like broiled cheese toast...
-Red, drooling just a little...

I like the pan toast, best on my cast iron griddle
The BBQ grill also makes decent toast, but you have to watch it to keep it from burning and drying out!

Panama
Panama,
This is why I am dying to drag that POS convection/microwave out of my TT and put in a Magic Chef with a broiler. If I only had the $. Saving my shinies for a generator for our trip out W. But it's on the list for sure.
I beg to differ with you on the toasted cheese. While that's a good thing to eat, I would much rather have some broiled cinnamon toast. Drop four slices of real butter on each corner of the bread, and a heavy sprinklin' of cinnamon sugar, and put those puppies in there! Top that off with a very cold glass of milk...UMMM UMMM. NOW you talkin'!

I was back and to, from cheese toast to cinnamon toast... I was going to go cinnamon, but didn't know if anybody else would know what it was. That stuff is AWESOME when you get the sugar all buttery and crunchy with caramelization. Great, now I've got to go make myself some cinnamon toast...
And you ought to be able to pick up one of those old Magic Chefs for a hundred bucks or so. Keep an eye on the classifieds...
-Red, eating without reserve...

The best cinnamon toast is made in a toaster oven:
toast the bread
butter generously
sprinkle liberally with homemade cinnamon sugar
return to toaster oven just til it bubbles

Cinnamon toast with honey rules. Butter, honey, cinnamon. Best with fresh sourdough bread with sesame seeds home sliced a bit thick.

We have a small Weber Go-Anywhere gas grill. Turn it on high and let it warm up. Put your bread on the grill and cover the grill with the lid to keep the heat in. Check and flip the bread with tongs every minute or so. In no time flat you'll have some of the best toast you've ever had. This is my standard way of making toast when camping in our AS even if we have full hookups. I've stopped packing an electric powered toaster because the grill-fired toast is so much better.

Never thought of honey on it. Right along with everyone else, I could eat a whole stinking loaf right now...
-Red, why do I do this to myself???
