Lander, Wyoming Camping
Find Lander, Wyoming and Highway 131 going southwest from town. It is black top and you pass the Sinks Canyon State Park and Sinks Canyon. You proceed all of the way up the switch backs and eventually the black top reverts to a well groomed, all weather gravel road.
Just before you round the hill and cross Sawmill Creek you will see an easy turn off the forest service road on your EAST side. We camped at the high point and had a view in all directions. You are off the main road and will not have a dust problem. Sawmill Creek is a clear flowing creek with a bridge. If you have an ATV, there are many ATV and Jeep trails in the area. We found a collapsed log cabin from the logging days on the west side of the road, about a mile into the woods near Sawmill Creek. Very peaceful and comfortable days and cool evenings. I estimate 12 miles to the campsite, but there are many pullouts once you are on top. To exit we keep going south and it was not a difficult road to travel. If you want to return to Lander, head back the way you arrived and that is the faster way to exit. There are no fish in the creek over 3 inches... so do not plan to fish at this campsite.
Lander has some decent places to eat, plenty of gasoline stations and services.
We have two Blue Heelers and in the evenings we stack the Pet Porters and have an apartment. The Heelers love sleeping inside and there is plenty of room to spare for the two humans within...
