Joshua Tree

We're headed to Joshua Tree Nat'l Park later this week for some fun in the sun. This will be our first trip to Joshua Tree. Any suggestions as to campgrounds (Jumbo Rocks??), specific campsites, etc? We're dry campers (with a nice solar panel on the roof!) and so don't expect hookuups, etc., just a nice, scenic spot for a few days with out 22' CCD. Thanks in advance!

Jumbo Rock is a nice campground. Their lower loops have a few spots that are long enough for a truck and trailer combo. Many of the spots at Joshua tree are very short, just enough to park a small RV or large van or truck, but not combinations. Many sites also are not very level. The other loops also have nice RV sites, but Jumbo Rock is by far the most scenic of them all. Just get there early, and drive a round a bit, you won't have any problems finding a nice site.

Thanks! I think we'll check out Jumbo Rock and try to find a spot there first. I noticed a typo in my thread... says we are going with "out" 22' CCD... should say going with "our" 22' CCD... of course we wouldn't go with out the AS! It would never forgive us!

This link describes all the Joshua Tree campground restrictions. You should be fine with a 22' CCD.

Take a look at the Bell campground. West side of loop. Great views and fairly private.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I think we'll check out Jumbo Rocks and Belle. Sounds like we should be able to find something very nice. I'll take pictures!

this is great: we love Joshua Tree and my partner suggested going there this January. We had stayed at the 29 Palms Inn in the past (good for martinis and steak) but want to take the trailer. Maybe this could be a mini-rally?

We went in the spring once. The park was completely full. We stayed in the BLM land on the south end. We liked it. I would have rather been in the park but it worked out OK.

Belle is a great campground, try to see if the ranger will tell you where to find _______? Hideway or something like that. I went several years ago, had topo maps and they still got nervous about a woman hiking in that area by herself. It is a small rock bound cave like structure where apparently some hermit lived some time ago. The place IS amazing hard to find, even when I got to the area, the only clue came from the ranger.....look for the mine tailings. It would be quite easy to become lost there, but only a few people have ever been able to locate it.. Good luck, wish I was coming this time when you all go..........

Wow... I forgot to post pictures from our trip to Joshua Tree last October. We stayed at Belle campground and LOVED it. Very scenic and secluded. (Ask me about the mice some other time!) Anyway, here are a few pictures from the many we took.
