Where would be a good place ro put a power plant on an airstream ? The tounge? Can it handle an extra 160 labs ?

For a time I had put a 12 volt generator I made in the spare tire well under the tongue.

A generator will fit here if a person can get the package down to ten or twelve inches tall.

I was running it on propane, and it worked well, but the belt drive setup I had for driving the alternators was problematic so I pulled it off.

A 3500 watt A/C gen with the fuel tank removed would fit there pretty well.

I might try another one there someday.

halftime just watch the overall tongue weight. If I remember correctly the AS is rated on the frame at a max of 1000#.

Seems to me if you are going to go with such a small unit, why not buy a small Honda Generator and keep it in the truck bed. Weight of the unit can't be to much of deal to haul in and out and the vibration on the frame is a non-issue

I have installed a Generac 3.5KVA propane generator in a 1973 Sovereign 31ft. trailer. It is in the space in front of the trailer under the setee. I constructed a frame for it in the space where the spare tire would normally be mounted, then built a box out of 3/4 plywood lined with galvanized sheet metal to cover it. I lost two of the slide out trays in the process, but am happy with the tradeoff. The floor is cut so that air can enter for cooling and engine air intake. The exhaust exits under the propane tanks in the a- frame. I upgraded to 40 lb tanks. It is quiet enough to be comfortable with the air running and all of the other entertainment equipment.

This generator would not operate the orginal Armstrong AC unit. Though that unit worked ok with shore power, the 3.5KVA unit could not run it. I changed the AC to a newer unit and everything works fine. Seemed I was overdue for that.
