Indispensable Electronic Devices?

My new indispensable electronic device… A Man Law instant-read digital meat thermometer. Now when I'm grilling meat on my Cobb Grill, I don't have to guess whether the meat is done based just on its appearance.

And since it's instant-read, I don't have to cook my thermomenter with my meat for it to be accurate.

Weather permitting I would rely on the following electronic devices:

Flash Light

12v test light

Solar panel to charge the Airstream Batteries.

That is all.
The trailer has lights, water pump, propane fridge, and a radio. For entertainment I bring paper back books and magazines, go hiking and light a camp fire (with matches), sometimes we bring bikes or the canoe. We play board games, ladder ball and bean bag toss. We cook on a Coleman stove and have a Gas BBQ. All week at work I am bombarded by ringing phones and emails, eat microwaved food and do most of my communicating with a key board. On vacation I want to sit back and enjoy nature.

Many of my friends children can only be entertained by electronics, I can't wait to teach my children how much fun you can have with something as simple as a foot ball.

This summer we tried to get to all of our destinations with out the GPS. I used a map and read road signs to navigate. I was quite proud of myself even if I did have the GPS in the glove box just incase.

If it's really hot I will bring the generators to run the AC.

For those that have one (my dad did) it's certainly indispensible! Those of us who don't have one all hope that a pacemaker never becomes indispensible for us!

We're total geeks (and have a 28 ft so lots of room) and travel with a lot of tech -- 2 smart phones and at least 1 iPad always. We have a Verizon MiFi and chargers for all as well as an inverter. If I remember I bring the camera and we usually have Kindles and often I'll have my work laptop as well. We use Hulu and connect the iPad to the tv. Hubby has a Dish setup but he used Hulu our last trip. I probably could get the hotspot service for my iPhone and do most of it off that but we have the gadgets and they take up very little room.

Does it take a good reading of the inside temp? The out side of a large price of meat can be much hotter than the inside meet next to the bone.

Stab it in, and in about ten seconds, it will give you a pretty accurate inside temp. Since I started using it, I haven't had any meat come out overdone OR underdone.

I take an Apple Mac Mini that has a ton of music and a lot of movies and TV shows. The Mini will run directly off of 12v without using the inverter. Also take two Logitech mini Boom bluetooth speakers for outside listening pleasure.

iPhone. iPad. Mini boom box for Bluetooth music. Multimeter. Nikon Coolpix camera (still better than a camera phone). Necessary charging cables for all of above. Jumper cables for truck. Old power strip for outside use. 50' outdoor extension cord. Outdoor timer to turn off decorative lights outside so they do not burn all night and piss off the campground. Valentine One radar detector. USB charging thingy for cigarette lighter.

One thing I never seem to need is my radar detector when I'm towing the Argosy. I just leave that in the car, where I ALWAYS need it.

I have an ipad and found one app that has downloaded maps but it's not easy to use. How do you access maps via GPS without either a wifi signals or a phone signal? I finally got a map atlas. I find there is more information on the printed page that I can access quickly than all the map apps. This isn't to say I don't like the iPhone navigation app. It is great while driving, especially on crazy freeways, like San Diego or LA but no phone signal, no directions. Even with the garmin, once you get off the paced roads, it's unreliable.

Thank you for turning off the outside decorative lights. One campers decorative lights spoils another campers enjoyment of the night.
