Seriously, one very important device is the USB connector/charger that goes into the 12 volt outlet. It will charge almost anything that has a USB cord. iPhone, iPad, cell phone, GPS, Kindle...

Answering the question on the thread, though, I believe there is no such thing as an indispensable electronic device for camping. Would anyone on this thread really say, "Sorry, I can't go. I don't have a _____[insert device here]."

I'd say that about my glucose meter, but that has nothing to do with camping, and everything to do with eating, even at home, and so it's not a valid answer to the question at hand.
Whoa, now that's an interesting App! See link below, it even has an "alarm" to notify someone if your blood sugar is really low as you can make bad decisions when that happens.

No kidding! We have a whole traveling bag of recharging devices and E-cords. I'll be glad when all devices use USB cords.

I'd be more likely to leave my American Express card at home than my Fluke.

Ditto. Each one in its own Ziplock bag, labeled with a Sharpie marker as to what it charges, since similar chargers may recharge devices that use different voltage. Don't want to cook my phone by accidentally plugging it into the camera charger!

Each rig has a Fluke dedicated to it, then various other meters scattered around the place. Only one AMX card.

Load the music on the iPad, leave the iPod at home. It is one less thing to have to be recharged.

Depends on the iPod. I've got an iPod that has a 160GB hard drive. 11,000 songs and counting, my entire music collection since high school, all on one pocket-sized device. Can't fit that much music on an iPad.

True. If I had an unlimited data plan I'd do exactly that. But with a pay-as-you-go plan, I don't want to have to pay Verizon to upload that many gigabytes of music, and pay again to download it when I want to listen.

For us in a 20' ... boondocking means minimal electronics - just a camera / cell combo. Any major electronics repairs will wait until return to base.

Cloud is good. As long as you have connection. Also uses more battery

Just my $0.02

New full timer here. My ipad is the most useful electronic device.

I make videos and do a lot of correspondence. I am fully solar and having an ipad gets me plenty of online time. Having a 3G ipad, a MiFi hotspot and my laptop for video editing, mixing board for audio and a stereo covers pretty much everything.

We got the Verizon IPad, which allows us to both use as a hotspot for our other computer/ laptop with NO additional charge (AT&T charges extra for this feature) AND allows us to activate the data plan month to month rather than having a monthly fee as AT&T requires. That way, if we are near good wifi we don't need to activate the data plan.

We carry a Verizon MiFi, cell phone data plan iPads (large and small), 11" MacBook Air and a Verizon iPhone. For any emergency, I carry a solar/battery/AC Satellite phone and SPOT locator emergency signal device.

LED lighting is great. Makes the lighting inside adaptable to task by adding an LED driver.

Other ideas here are good!
